March 2023 hatch-a-long

Pics
I'm 6 pages behind, and no, I'm not gonna go back and read every one.
BUT..... The RACE is ON!
First egg pipped at 7am this morning, and hatched out before noon!!! Only 3 others (of 35 total) had even pipped by that time. Poor little thing is all alone in the brooder. Right now, I've got 16 more eggs pipped, two of these are zipping, and 18 more haven't pipped yet. Hatch day is supposed to be tomorrow.
And I thought that by setting the eggs in the morning, I could expect hatching during the daylight hours. Not so, this batch! Going to be a sleepless night.
🤣 Good fortune!

Second place goes to baby wallen 😅

Unfortunately I had to cull a chick this morning. He looked pretty thin when I took him out of the incubator. And he didn't want to eat or drink. I even tried forcing some egg into his beak... nothing. This morning he just wanted to sleep under the heating plate. So I decited his fate for him.
The rest got their immunizations this morning and are doing well. So I am down to 14 that made it.

Looks ok to me but it’s hard to tell much that far along. The main thing at this stage is patience. It can really seem like they’re taking forever but besides making sure your incubator conditions are right the best thing you can do is wait.

Sorry about that. Dealing with a weak chick is never fun but it sounds like you made the humane decision. Hopefully your remaining chicks will thrive🤞🏼🤞🏼
