March 21 CHICKEN SWAP TSC MILFORD NH ( recycled post with new date)

I almost cant wait for the 21 st to be honest,
Hand made aprons, crochet dish cloths oh my. I remember before the nerve damage in my hand and arm , crocheting. Its awesome therapy. unfortunately one cant hold the hook in a numb hand.
heh probibly brain too , who knows lol.
I cant wait to see the goodies,, and know for fact I am making a bee line to Cheeps table.

Cheep are you going to bring the Floap again?
I wanted to get back and get some last swap and never got a chance.
and of course more Sweet Grass and Peach.

LMBO cassi is trying her hardest to use up that bar of sweet grass so she can get more. She isnt getting it used up very fast lol that bar of soap refuses to melt down. its a very well put together soap. Lathers perfectly and lasts for ever, I am not telling her its meant to last not act like comercial soaps lol.

I am hoping to hear from more crafters as to what they are bringing.
I wanted to get to the candle table , the TShirt table and never got a chance to get back otu of the back room
My oldest is still chewing me for not getting her some candles.

Wendy I might be interested in the Speckleds also.
I need to call Tom also and see if he still has my Pheonix hens, I am hoping he didnt sell them at Westford.

gypsy that is awesome!
I am sorry about the doe though. Poor girl.

I have to dig my brooder out of the back yard and bring it up this weekend. I think my chicks are arriving shortly. M barn owner ordered them and I am buying off her. And that will be my flock.

Thats awesome , mine from MMM is supposed to be sent out this week also ,
I bought the Fancy hen package, I have a person who wants the fancy pants type chickens,
polish, top hat, silkies etc. and the price was good so I went ahead
and I cant wait to get the white silky from Wendy , cassi is champing at the bit for her.
We just figured out yesterday that the Buff Silky I got from Wendy a few months ago is in fact a hen, so that gives cassi one hen one roo silky, She got her roo from Lily at Ohala acres, he is cassis' best buddy.

I so wish we could have a roo. I would love a decent breeding pair of Self Blue DUccles. Oh well. I can just visit my barn owners flock(s)
And here's to hoping I dont end up with a roo in this bunch of three I have coming! LOL Although a little(bantie) crow wont be too bad

My Bantam gold lace cochin certainly has a big mouth lol, He can crow louder than the big roosters, I think he has a bigger crow cause he is so much shorter than they are, but he is the King of the pen, even with the name Mr Pantyloons lol.

Good morning

I was thinking/dreaming about chickens again last night (hey, I have a 9 month old who still gets me up so uh, what was I saying?) and was wondering if I should wait until April for chicks. They'll be going out directly into a tractor and it seems that they'd be about 5-6 weeks old the beginning of May, which is still pretty cold around here.
Thoughts?

If I'm getting them now, please please please save me one little sussex. Please?

They should be fine if they are fully feathered out...you'll need to acclimate them to the outside temps like you would plants...a few hours out each day. It helps to not stress them...

Chicken dreaming.....OH you are addicted!! LOL

You'll have to keep coming here for the support group...it does help!!

Do you have a basement where you can set up abrroder box? with warm lights and such?
I keep mine inside untill the weather warms up but have had chicks fully feathered I have put outside in the middle of winter. they just find a younger pullet to snuggle under to keep warm.
plus I also have an OEG who mothers any chicks that end up inside the hen house.
The OEG hen has to be better than 5 years old, very tolerant and mothering of young chicks, and will even jump a nest box while one of thesex links are layinig just so she can steal the egg and be broody lol.
only way I can keep her from broody is to toss out fuly feathered chicks, she is a hoot.

I'm going to set up a brooder box, so I'm just worried about them when they're too big for the box

I don't have any other chickens, this will be the start of my very small flock (of 3 or 4) so they won't be able to keep each other warm too much outside. I'm thinking it might be easier to wait until April, even though I don't want to.

Ok, and I just discovered EE's. I mean, please, why WOULDN'T I want 3 of these? Arrgh, I can't choose chickens!!

LOL!!!!!
Yeah, hence the reason I have 3 Buff Orps, a black Cochin, a Australorp and a Speckled Sussex and 2 self blue D Uccles on the way.
Little buggers are addictive.

I was talking to my dh about ordering some to just sell for the May stocks. He looked at me and said "We dont have room for more chickens"
Meaning "And how would you NOT fall in love with all of them and then REALLY have an over abundance of eggs. Plus the kid really likes having her pool in her back yard." He's right. But darnit. they are so addictive. Some day I will live someplace that I can have a huge flock, some roosters, my Sebestpol (sp) geese and my horse. Some day
