March 21 or so hatching

Candled today, day 9. Most egg shells were too dark to see into when I can't get the room totally pitch black like I can when I'm home. However, some of the light beige eggs we could see the veining really well and one egg had a wiggler. I used him to show around the class room.

Some kids were creeped out, while others thought it was cool. LOL

I candled yesterday. Day 7. 8 out of 9 look like they're working. The 9th can ride out until lockdown before I pitch it. If he's going to grow, he had better get started!

These chicks are for a friend of mine. When they're done I'm going to do some for me. I'm quite addicted!

I candled my bantam eggs, a lot of them looked clear but I did have a few with veins that were quite evident. I will wait until day ten or so to go through my LF eggs, as they are brown and hard to see through.

I have my bator set with 8 Amercaunas from my own hens, hoping for a Mar 23 hatch. I did candle last night, and have 8 viable eggs. Kind of excited! :D I know there is a lot of time between now and hatch...but happy for a good start.

I have 5 silkies, 12 buff orpingtons, 12 red stars, and 16 black copper marans that should hatch the 23rd. This is my first time incubating and I'm already hooked! Have 10 lavender orpingtons and 10 buff lace brahma eggs on the way. I candled Saturday and 2 red stars and 5 marans looked questionable but I'm going to try again Wednesday to candle before I give up on them.

Today is the beginning of day 7 here. I did my first candling, and so far out of 24 eggs, two didn't make it back to the incubator. One never developed, and the other had a blood ring. Everyone else is looking good- except for one that I'm concerned about. It's air cell is on the side of the egg. Not sure if I should chuck it now, or wait it out. I put it back in the incubator because it's still alive, and I suppose if it's meant to be, it's meant to be.

22 out of 24 isn't so bad!!

That sounds familiar Aacre. I candled today to show the rest of the students that didn't get a chance yet to see anything. I'm on day 12 here. Can't see thru anything except the lightest colored eggs because I can't get a totally dark room. I found two eggs that won't hatch: 1 must not have been fertile and the other had died early (day 6 or 7?). I don't know about the darker eggs (I need more time because the two duds I picked up, I could "feel" a difference.) There were a couple of wigglers, one even gave some of the kids a good view of tiny feet. They loved it! LOL
