were your eggs shipped?
Nope. They are from my back-yard chickens. I collected for 9 days and left them in a closet. I had a hard time with several trying to figure out the large end, so with several pipping on the wrong end I think I had the poor guys upside down. I also didn't put enough effort into boosting my hens' nutrition when I decided to collect to hatch, it was a whim. None of my EE eggs have hatched, but the shells on her eggs are super thick, so I suspected they wouldn't. I borrowed an LG still air from a friend. We had a power outage at day 17 and the temp dropped. A lot of contingencies. I'm glad that I got the 14. I do have one in with them with crippled feet, I'm going to give it a day or two. I tried making band-aid boots earlier, but it made things worse.
I've still got 14 eggs up in the incubator. How long should I leave them before quitting? Today is day 21. I set at 8pm on the 1st. All but 2 of the chickies hatched yesterday (day 20) and of the 2 to hatch today I helped one and it's the one with crooked legs. No action with the eggs for several hours now. I know still airs can have warm and cold spots... any suggestions on wait time?
This has been quite the learning experience.
I DO love my chickies and am extremely grateful for my 14 healthy babies!
