Well... I candled my eggs one last time before going into lockdown, all 5 were moving and lively, but one looked less developed than the others. It was my favorite egg because it was the easiest to see through all along. I can tell there is more liquid in the egg, and it has a smaller air cell. It was also the only egg in the batch that didn't have a broken air cell when it arrived. Now I am worried it won't hatch, at the very least I now think it will be a bit late. Has anyone else ever had this happen?

Well, you just have to wait and see - I have exactly the same problem. And also, it was the only egg with 'normal' (or almost normal) air cell.

So far I have the following:

43 due on the 6th got 35 hatched...81%
45 due on the 13th got 36 hatched...80%
63 due onthe 16th got 43 hatched...68%
70 due on the 20th got 58 hatched...83%
25 due on the 24th got 21 hatched...84%
49 due on the 30th

This gives me at total so far of 295 for March...
So far we are at a hatch rate of 197 of 246 so 80%...we must do better than that...

I think with the 49 on the 30th we will break 200 babies for March...but our percentage will not reach even 84% if all of those hatch...but I will take it and love all of them at least I am getting to keep some of these...Yeah

UPDATE: DAY 20.... 49 in lockdown...41 'OE's and 8 Polish from shipping
8 shipped Polish have pips, 7 'OE' hatched and 7 pips with 27 waiting to start on day 21...

Were in lockdown now expecting chicks any moment. 160 went in and 130 made it to lock down, Mostly cochins guess its time for the old butt trimming seems they were infertile, I been hatching gold laced and blue cochins just fine so that leads me to believe its my black standards that are not getting the job done and they need a good fuzzy butt plucking or cutting.

The quail hatch is over. Day 19 was today and nothing else hacted. So I'll toss out the eggs tomorrow. Out of 60 eggs, we lost 5 to cracks either in shipping or later. Had 28 chicks hatch. and the remainder were either quitters or just were not fertile. Not to bad for shipped eggs!! All of the chicks have survived so far. I was expecting to loose some from stress and lack of eating and drinking but they are all eating and drinking great.

So how do I know when candling what is gonna hatch and what isn't? I've seen movement at lockdown and those hatched but the others didn't. Is movement mandatory to see for them to have a potential to hatch or is there something else I can be looking for?
