ebear82: Glad to see that your chicks leg is doing better. Sometimes chicks can't get their feet under themselves right & get spraddle leg (leg or legs spread out or to the side). A layer in the incubator & the brooder of waffle type shelf liner will help avoid that, slippery paper can cause it also. They often recover easily with a brace in a few days, make sure to add marbles to the water for if they fall forward into water they won't drown before getting themselves up again. They are ackward at first, but get the hang of it later in the day. I use a white pipe cleaner (weird colors attract pecking by other chicks sometimes) cut into 4 equal pcs. Take a piece, curl each end around a pencil, lay the whole thing on counter & flatten everything. Now you have something to crimp loosly around each upper leg with the straight part inbetween as a brace. Try not to twist their legs when putting it on. This works easily & does not stick to the skin like bandaids or tape. It can be left on for a few days, then remove to see if they need it any longer. Have fun with your chickies!

D'Angelo N Va.: Congrats on your chicks hatching, proud PaPa. I found this for you on posting pics & can be found in the future by clicking Index (in the above blue line list), the Frequently Asked Questions. Good luck with that, I look forward to seeing the pictures. https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=1198

Also
, you're right! Sometimes some do hatch the next day, there are so many factors that determine that; some are different breeds, cold spots in incubator, humidity changes, etc. etc.

I hope you can get this straightened out, keep on it if it gets out of the band-aid fix it right away. I had one like that on my last hatch and it didn't go so well it never straightened out. While I was at work it always managed to get out. Needless to say we had to cull it. I hope you dont have to. Good luck

cluckcluck42: Yeah! You got an egg turner, that must be nice. Any pics of your chickies? Good to hear you're in again with hatching. Best wishes, happy for you. Did you two get a chance to make any tractors yet?

PandoraTaylor: Very nice group of chicks! How fun! I like how you keep track of you hatches, very organized. You have a very busy rooster!

cook_kaka_ook: How many have you got there, I've lost count? Congrats!

ronnie the rooster: They made it! Good for you!

afinny: Hope to see a pic of "puffdaddy" if you can! I adore the bearded silkies & am tempted to get a Bearded Partridge Silkie hen to brood someday.

mstricer: Yeah for good hatches!!!!!!!

I've heard taping a bandaid to both legs during its first week should help it. I had one like that last year but didn't know there was a fix for it. I still have him and he still only uses one leg. I don't have the heart to cull just because of a handicap. He gets along just fine and gets around anywhere he wants to. We named him Pogo.

Thank you and I'm saving the Fav's they are my best hatching today with what I believe to be at least 4 girls that are blond. Aren't the boys mainly dark?
