March Hatch-A-Long.( How is it gettting here so quick ? LOL )

Our hatch has started, it is only day 19. I have four external pips as of right now, one is coming breech, anything I should watch for on this one?

I had this too. I waited nearly 24 hours before assisting. At that point, the chick hadn't made any progress in 15 hours and the membrane was solid white. I had to moisten to check for veins and when there was none, I had to release just enough shell and membrane so the chick could get it's head out. Then I let it do the rest. Mine was completely upside down, thinking the small end was the big end. I have seen photos from others where the chick pips between it's legs and is folded such that it can't get out and you have to help more. Just make sure it's progressing and your humidity is good.

I had two in my current hatch pip the wrong end and ended up assisting both - happy to say both are happily stomping around in the brooder today!

Have 13 hatched so far and waiting out a dozen others ( I was bad and added some eggs over the first few days of incubation).

Best hatch I've had to so far with my BCMs!

And now a PIP!!! Here we go!!! This is the best that made it viable to lockdown, 21 eggs!!! I just hope I didn't mess em all up with switching them to my "hatcher", as its not as stable as the incy!! I'm so nervous!

Mine go into lockdown in the morning so today I'm making sure the hatcher is stable temp and humidity wise. I'm nervous about this hatch too as this is also my first time moving them from the 'bator to a hatcher but I keep telling myself it will work out just fine. I can't wait to move them over tomorrow as I have a whole new batch ready to go in the incubator once there is room for them! I really hope this hatch goes well...so far the eggs look great when candled so I'm hoping for the best.

Same here, love varieties & finding out which ones I like best. I would like to try them all lol!

I have 5 chicks hatched and one of them has what I think may be an umbilical hernia. It's moving around fine and chirping up a storm, but I'm concerned about it. I've read several threads with lots of different advice from wait and watch to cull it now to put a bandaid on it. Not being certain what it is, I don't want to take the wrong action. We have kind of a hands off policy during a hatch but I never want to be inhumane. Any ideas or thoughts about it? My biggest fear is that the other chicks in the bator might peck at it and cause it to bleed.

I had 1 from my last hatch come out that way. The hernia got a lot bigger and was leaking yolk out and bleeding. It was awful. I was told to contact Sally Sunshine and this is the advice she gave me. By the time I figured it all out, its intestines had also fallen out, so I had to cull. But urs may not get so bad. Just incase.... Her advice... Take dental floss dip in iodine and tie it to the top of that mess.next to the chick and then cut it off and iodine the entire area when she is free of the mess... its the yolk that came back out. This chick will need alot of care this week, it wont have those vits from the yolk,. feed it scrambled yolk and plenty of electrolytes and such see this paste from hatching 101

2 out. 10 pipped! And 1 half zipped that I believe didn't absorb its yolk and drowned! It was SOOOOOO hard to NOT open the bator and risk the lives of te other 9 who had already pipped!
