March Hatch-A-Long.( How is it gettting here so quick ? LOL )

I had 1 from my last hatch come out that way. The hernia got a lot bigger and was leaking yolk out and bleeding. It was awful. I was told to contact Sally Sunshine and this is the advice she gave me. By the time I figured it all out, its intestines had also fallen out, so I had to cull. But urs may not get so bad. Just incase....
Her advice...
Take dental floss dip in iodine and tie it to the top of that mess.next to the chick and then cut it off and iodine the entire area when she is free of the mess...
its the yolk that came back out. This chick will need alot of care this week, it wont have those vits from the yolk,.

feed it scrambled yolk and plenty of electrolytes and such

see this paste from hatching 101
We also lost this little chick early this morning. We had separated it from the others and shortly after it's intestines also started coming out. So, I also culled it.

Set the bator to stabalize last night. First hatch will be a test run with lg with automatic turners put in 12 eggs this morning...the waiting is on

Just did my 1st assist! SCARY!!! The chick zipped about halfway before I went to bed last night. Woke up the morning and the humidity in my hatcher had bottomed out!! You could see that it was all crazy dried up. He still had a small hole to breathe, but the rest was thick and hard. So, seemed to go ok. No blood or anything. Guess we will see. Its not bouncing around in the bator like they usually do, but it seems to be trying hard. Stupid bator!!! Its so confusing!

Day 14 candle - I could see good veining in all of them, and movement in a few!

here is a picture of the weird side air cell egg... the small circle is day 0, the big one is day 14.

the other air cells are all looking good, at the top and round

BTW... we got our first egg of the season!
it was laid by a pullet that I hatched myself -- that's a first for me!

I'm thinking my little chick that I "saved" is going to have to be culled. :( it cannot walk on one of its legs. Its toes stay all curled on that foot and when its sittin/laying down its foot is just twisted under it. Idk what to do for it.

So last night I was sitting in my living room and I heard peeping from my bedroom (where the incubators are). Now mind you, I don't have any eggs due to hatch until Sunday and they just went into lockdown on Thursday. The first time I heard it I thought I was imagining things but the second time the kids heard it too, loud and clear. I think someone is in a hurry to meet the world! I hear peeping more regularly this morning but still no external pip that I can see. I suppose it could be pipped on the under side of the egg. It is going to be hard to sit on my hands and wait for this one! I have around 30 eggs in lockdown now...I am anxious to see how this hatch goes compared to others since this is the first time I've used to incubators, one for incubating, one for hatching.
