March Hatch-Along Thread- Come Hatch With Us!!!!!

Thank you, I was a little nervous about not monitoring the humidity but things are going great. Out of the 15 eggs 12 have hatched and one more is zipping now, and I candled the other 2 and they were completely see through. I am so excited and happy to have baby chickies

it is soooo addicting!!
Congrats!!!!!! I am on my second hatch, and I am so ready for mine, but I have a long way to go, seems like it takes forever for 3 weeks to pass! I set my eggs at 10 pm on the 21st and hatch day is April 11th!!! I can't wait!!!!! You are right it is very addicting!!!!

Haven't been on in a wk, 390 unread posts! I'll never catch up LOL
Last week I had 1 sultan & 1 polish chick hatch on on day 22. Only 1 more pipped but never made it past that. The others all died in shell, fully formed.
Today is lock down for my SLW & my Col Wyandotte as well. Tomorrow is lockdown for the lemon cuckoo orps.
Sorry about your hatch! Keeping my fingers crossed that this one is better!

I'm putting the eggs in my incubator into lockdown on Wednesday night. I'm even more worried about my easter eggers. I was concerned that "big daddy" makes big babies and the EE eggs are not big eggs. Well... I candled a couple of them this morning and they are looking pretty crowded in there! There isn't much space left at all & they still have 4+ days to go.

I have a broody hen! My black australorp, Jewels, decided she wants babies. AND of course she decided the that highest nestbox (about chest high) right next to the door was the best place to raise a family. Ugh. I tried to move her to a box on the floor of the coop (under their ramp so it is dark and quiet), but it's still too close to the communal waterer for her tastes. I think later today I'll move the waterer, and block off the area under the ramp, and then after dark tonight I'll try to move her again. She's sitting on fake eggs right now. If I can get her settled in the new spot I'll put some silkie eggs under her. Of course our BR and NH hens thought the new nest box under the ramp was AWESOME. They loved it right from the start. They're not broody, but I could see their wheels turning. I hear broodiness is contagious. LOL. Sorry girls... the luxury suite is for Jewels. If you want to have babies I'll hook you up.

Well my second attempt!

8 out of 9 eggs hatched. All hatched a day early. Today is hatch day but all hatched yesterday. Not with some stress and excitement though. My RIR/EE mix was the first to pip but after 2 eggs hatched I thought there was something wrong. So I took the egg out and sure enough it was almost all shrink wrapped. So I peeled the shell off and wet the lining around it and pulled it off. Happy to report the next day it is the most active chick in the brooder. LOL.

Also had one almost die. Fell asleep last night. Wife woke me up and the chick was on its back under the heat lamp. Think it had a heat stroke. So I put it back in the bator over night and this morning again doing great now.

Last. when 2 hatched I guess they did soak up the yoke. So when they dried there feathers are now a crust of harden yoke. tried wiping them off with wet cloth but didn't work. I'm hoping once a few days older they will clean themselves off. Or when they lose there feathers then they will get read of it. Unless anybody else has an idea.

Thanks to everybody here for all the help after the first disaster!!

I just set 27 eggs in my incubator, first time hatch ever! My daughter and I are doing it together and are so excited. We set mostly Polish and some lavender Americaunas. I have Tolbunts in there, so fingers crossed everything goes smoothly, we've wanted Tolbunts for some time. Also have silver laced and gold laced Polish. I've read a lot of these forums before beginning, but any helpful hints are welcome! Just got a Little giant still air. We have several hens that go broody and were hoping to let them on them, but they were uncooperative and for the first time decided NOT to go broody.

Oh well, here's hoping.

Welcome. I have wanted Tolbunts forever. I've tried hatching several batches but can never get them to hatch,

We checked on our eggs tonight and one was weepy, so we took it out. I don't think we're going to have any from this batch hatch out. Storms knocked power out twice, and there weren't many fertilized in this batch anyways. There are 3 left in the incubator, we'll see.

Awww. I had a few weepy ones to in this batch that I candled last night. Out of 8 eggs that were sent I am down to 1.

Dear naglady,
I am sure your fine since today is 21.but do you have a hydrometer?????? Increasing humidity is very important.
You might already know that...........

and just hadn't metioned it.
I am on day 22 and just getting good action..........Good Luck

Thank you for some reassurance..I dont have a hygrometer, I did the dry incubations with just little water first 18 days. then i filled with water and have a sponge in there for lockdown, lots of humidity..day 22 will be today around 1pm.. nothing happening yet..

So sorry to hear you lost a chick..

I am just going to ignore the incubator today.. and stay away.. maybe i will start getting some action.. Now i wonder since its still air bator i read your suppose to run it 102 and i did mine 99.5-100.. so maybe a little lower then suppose to and i may have a later hatch..

Good luck to all those in lockdown.. sending hatching vibes your way..
