March Hatch-Along Thread- Come Hatch With Us!!!!!

Hi thanx u all for the info and help. No I haven't had any exploding eggs :( and thanx for the hug feels a little bit better.. I stil have 6 eggs to go with internal pipping but see no cracks in she'll yet.. How long before I must start stressing again?

What kind of candler is everyone using? I use a flashlight but it is so hard to candle the colored eggs. I am thinking of having my son make one for me using a lightbulb and a wooden box like I've seen on one of the forum threads.

I use a very bright flashlight. I can't remember how many lumens it has, but it's over 60. I can see through colored eggs just fine :)

Eeeep I got home today and the power was out for 20ish minutes and the bator got down to 84 degrees. We will see how things turn out. I suppose mama hens get up once in a while.... :)

I am using a Milwaukee Work Light, with a rechargeable battery. I duct taped an unused conical vacuum cleaner attachment to it. The opening for the light is about quarter sized, so it is perfect for candling! Plus, the flashlight can stand on its own on its back or upright, so I don't have to fumble with holding it, an egg, and a pencil when I mark air cells.

I have candled in our interior (windowless) bathroom during the day, and at night. There is a HUGE difference with what I could see at night when my eyes were that much more adjusted to the darker light levels. Always will do it at night from now on.

I use a cheap dollar store LED flashlight- they are very bright!

Hi! I have 42 eggs in my Genesis Hovabator that are due to hatch March 19th.I am so excited

eggs are from hens that I hatched last year--a mix of Ameracauna rooster and hens that were Barred Rock, Black Sex Link, Leghorn, and Americauna. The eggs are all shades of blue/green and olive and a few brown from the new comets I got late last summer. It is always so exciting to see how many hatch, what they look like. It is a never ending learning experience. I will post pictures.
Wow! Very pretty eggs!

I had two eggs internally pip, and I just got one that externally pipped right now!!

It's on the egg on the right. (the tiny shadow kind of in the middle of the egg) It took two days to make it this far!! (it internally pipped two days ago when I candled) Today is day 20, tomorrow at 7 am is the start of day 21. Perfect timing, I would have to say! Last hatch I had one hatch on day 24!!

So give them a LOT of time!

I bought a high lumen flashlight off of ebay and can see in even the darkest eggs. I built one of those candling boxes and the only way to see inside a dark egg with it is to set the egg on the hole and use a flashlight at the top.
