We just got our first hatch. It is so cute

Hi! Welcome to BYC!

She is adorable!!!

So, I decided against setting eggs under our broody. (Who has been broody and hogging the breeding pen for over 4 weeks!) I was going to do it, I was going to put eggs under her NOW, I swear I was!! I even looked up to get some frizzle polish eggs from a woman about 20 minutes away from here. However, she's not getting any eggs from her hen right now. Drats! So I guess that's meant to be. So instead, now that I'm feeling a little better. I ran into the farm store (bought another flipping chick. lol) and got some high protein feed for the broody. I changed her feed out, opened her coop up to allow more light in, and blocked off her nest boxes! I'm going to break her of it dang nab it & she needs to put some weight back on! We'll see how that works.

So I have another week yet before I can set eggs (doing the Easter hatch). I am feeling lost without my incubator going! What am I going to do with my time? It feels like on the rare occasion when I forget to put my rings back on after my shower. I feel naked!! Very awkward, I know... but the best way to describe it.

I might have to start doing something productive - like laundry, or get back to reading my book or something... Ugh!

Hi happy hatchers

I am so excited. I set 21 eggs from my home hatched Brahmas this past weekend. Can I join the March hatch a long? Sounds like a really fun group an lots of hatching goin on. So I will be candling this Sat and hatching the 14th. Do we need to post pictures of our eggs?

glad you made it too!

I just candled my call duck eggs. I have 3 left, but am only sure about 1 b/c the other 2 I can't see any movement. I still see the veining, but I just don't know... I've been leaving them in, but I am so disappointed. I had 22 of these eggs shipped to me, most had real bad air cells that never developed...

I hear call ducks are the hardest to hatch under the best circumstances. Good luck! I read that cooling them for 20 minutes everyday and misting them before putting the lid back on helped though.

Wait, wait, wait! Does this mean you won't be on here everyday just cause you don't have any eggs cooking @ the moment? and just cause you're doing that hatch along thing, does that mean you're not doing this hatch along too?????

Starting my first incubator hatch ever. Have 13 Easter Egger Bantams going in tonight.

Raised chickens years ago and am just now starting to get back into it now that I have the property to free range finally :) Never incubated before so I am hoping for the best even though these are mail order eggs, however, they do seem to come from a very legit farm and were packed very well. Only took 2 days to get to me and the air sacks all appeared intact after candling for them. So all seems well so far, now to set them and wait. Really excited for me and my boys to experience this :) Wish us luck!

Yep that's what I've heard too- but we wanted a few small ducks for our pond & no one around here has any so I got the eggs to try. The misting is only needed if you have trouble getting the air cell to develop big enough, and I do cool them shortly each day. I've been following the direction of someone I read about that's been hatching calls for over 20 yrs... but I am not having luck with it I think. I'm grateful that I have the 1 I know is alive, but was hoping for 2 or 3...
