March Hatch-Along Thread- Come Hatch With Us!!!!!

I believe is was Brookhavens that suggested putting a towel at one end of the incubator and tipping it back and forth for turning. I did that this morning and evening, but is that good enough turning?

When I first started hatching I used to put a priority box under one side of the bator and then switch sides every couple of hours. Worked great. The most they should be turned is at a 45* angle.

Okay, my chick has feathered legs, which is not a quality of Delawares, RIRs, Barred Rocks, OR Amerecaunas. The chick has four toes, so that rules out the possibility of silkie mix, and the person who gave me the eggs said they had some mystery breeds, and so far I have come up with Brahmas and Cochin.

Probably a Heinz 57 if she has "mystery breeds" and yeah probably one of those 2 in it.

Pug
That must have been so heartbreaking So sorry!!

My circuit flipped yesterday but i was home SOO luckily or all my bators and my brooders would have gone out

4 bators!!! GUH.
Well i will sound like a broken record this month b/c i have so many hatches of lavender orps but ppl want them so ....
Anyway in my home made hatch bator I had a pip tonight day 21 ..9 pm.
BUt last hatched on day 22 dont know why temp was right .but i guess these will too .
Only 6 eggs. this time.
I got just 2 chicks last time, Dont know why my hatches are so low
.A friend hatched my eggs the other day and got 9 out of 14!! My temps are right on , my humidity is 25-35..
I havent cleaned the bators in a long time b/c i have eggs on eggs going in so maybe the water gets bad.
They look clean and the water does too as the eggs are in cartons and i dont hatch in there but i cleaned them anyway today Only thing i can think of.Will see.

Roxanne you need to clean your bators out. With every hatch there is a bacteria bloom that can cause the next eggs not to hatch. Even if you take one out of circulation, clean it and then swap eggs from the next bator. until all your bators are cleaned. I learned this the hard way in January.

HI again everyone- wow this is a busy thread, can't keep up w/ all the post!

I had a bad day- woke up this morning to 6 dead chicks! Somehow my ecoglow got unplugged in the brooder last night, I discovered it when I found the dead chicks. so upset!!! 4 of my basque chicks, 1 choc orp & 1 frizzle. Even tho the heater was on in the house, I guess it wasn't enough to keep them warm enough w/o the ecoglow.

Then had a doc. ap, on the way home DH stopped @ the feed store so we could get our feed. They had bunnies in, DH said go ahead pick out the 3 I liked best! I got 1 male, 2 females. I was so excited

Still sad about my chicks, but this lifted my mood alot!
I had one hop out about 5;30 this morning
He chirped his little head off for 1/2 hour .I didnt get up for a while was up at 4;30 to the bathroom and had to give them all water then (6 brooders the roo was crowing about it.this is NEXT to my bedroom) plus there is an older chick in there with a bad leg who will chirp its head off..so i waited in case it was her ...when i did go in here was this little black baby in the middle of the cold floor Theres even a screen over the box but not on tightly.
They can get out i dont know how.
Why i need a nap most days

Yup! I think it should be okay. :)

I had two eggs internally pip, and I just got one that externally pipped right now!!

It's on the egg on the right. (the tiny shadow kind of in the middle of the egg) It took two days to make it this far!! (it internally pipped two days ago when I candled) Today is day 20, tomorrow at 7 am is the start of day 21. Perfect timing, I would have to say! Last hatch I had one hatch on day 24!!

So give them a LOT of time!
I am so happy to read this... I have two eggs that seem developmentally delayed... I think if they stay in an extra few days they might be ok. I will leave them in until there is no sign of life

Oh Well,I'll try again later.
Have posted pic's before and now nothing I try is working........
Temp had dropped to 95 in the hatcher this morning.humidity held........
Not going to freak.pretty much believe if they are going to hatch.they will

I feel sad about the thoughts on Seramas.I breed them and have just not experienced any problems
that I have not had with other breeds............and they are sooooo sweet. And they are hardy. When not using to breed, mine live with my LF
without a problem. I have three Serama roos that moved into my English Orp coop.thier decision not mine...and they do great.
It is very funny. At night you cannot find the Serama because they tuck themselves in between the hens....... (smart Roo's

)

Wishing everyone great luck with hatching........
And special thoughts for those that have had losses or problems..........

Later................................
