March Hatch-Along Thread- Come Hatch With Us!!!!!

Today is 21 for my three eggs...got a bad feeling.
Iwonder if some of the eggs got to cold before collection???????

mjanderson 437:
I use an LG still air for hatching.not sure what to tell you..........
I use clean white wash rags for humidity.
Have a thermometer and hydrometer set up.
Usually run without eggs a day before I put eggs into lockdown.
Having sterilized from the last hatch.
Temp 100.humidity 65 /70
Add water through the holes in the top.
The laugh at myself for the next 3 or 4 days because I cannot stay away from the incubator.

Good luck, hope his helped.

Officially on lockdown over here!!! So excited! Several eggs are already wiggling up a storm...hope the eggs at least start pipping before my kids start SOL testing on Tuesday!

Chick #1 (Buttercup) almost a week old...waiting impatiently for her new friends!

It was at seven days that i had lost the 4.4%. Today is day fourteen. I've been running about 45% for the past week, and obviously it was too high, because my average loss is about 8.9%. I think I'm going to run it dry for the next four days to try and try to get the weights down.

Any advice/suggestions?

Also, I had weird outliers. One that had lost almost 20%, and one that has only lost about 3.6%. I am hoping that they were just record keeping errors.

I can't offer advice as this is my first time but I can compare notes.  I'm on day 17 and by day 7 they had lost an average of 6% weight.  By 14 they had lost an avg 13% with the humidity steady the entire time at 37-38%.  I too have oddballs, one losing 16% and another losing only 6% which isn't as drastic as yours but still quite a difference and the difference has been consistent so I'm pretty sure they aren't errors.  They are two eggs from the same hen even, that sit right next to each other in the bator.   Strange.

Bator went dry in the middle of the night. Is now at about 9%. I think I will only run it for two days like this, and then weigh on day 16 to see how they are doing. Don't want to accidentally shrink wrap them!

I candled all of them last night, trying to figure out if my outliers might be quitters. Out of 48 eggs, 46 saw movement. One egg has a really opaque shell. I could make out some veins and darker areas, but it was too dark to see movement. Another egg I candled for about five minutes, but wasn't able to see any movement. I put it back in just in case it really is viable. Neither of the eggs I have questions about were my outliers.

Thanks for your help!

Pip hatched in the middle of the night as a surprise! Also, Willow and Duffy are pipped so the hatch cam is back up :). This is Day 21 for them.

Yesterday I picked up my 4 bantam sultan chicks from the feed store and moved Olive and Rose to the brooder.

Here are some pics!

Hooray, my turn for a horrible hatch...

Malcolm gave up fighting and died in the shell even though it was breathing. It was malpositioned and still had quite a bit of yolk to absorb.

I have 5 more due tomorrow and I'm just going to let whatever happens happen. Not sure what went wrong, but it definitely wasn't great.
So sorry to hear that! Sending good thoughts that the other 5 hatch healthy tonight/tomorrow!

Well this is a weird hatch 6 eggs..

I set some eggs at 12;30pm CST.think i have the wrong time zone for Easter hatch a long.
Anyway I dont expect a lot because some were really cold when i collected them and some are from my LBs and my roo is in love with ONE girl ..so not many are fertile if any .BUT im in anyway
Well better go over and GET in!!

Well today starts lockdown .... I candled all my eggs and lost another egg :-( but still have 31 wigglers and I have the humidity up to 67%
I am thinking of wrapping it round and round with duct tape to keep me from wanting to peek lol

awwww they are soooo cute!

I had one Blue Copper Maran chick pip last night and hatch today. There are several others pipped and chirping.... I swear I check the incubator every 20 minutes! This is so exciting and nerve wracking at the same time!!!!

Good luck everyone!
