March Hatch-Along Thread- Come Hatch With Us!!!!!

If a watched pot doesn't boil, do watched eggs ever hatch?

So, just to be clear, are you planning on locking down the first batch in the same incubator that the second batch is still incubating?

Yea I have too don't have the money to purchase another thermometer/hygrometer combo to put in my old homemade incubator. :/ I didn't want to do a staggered hatch but the hubby wanted some of his game eggs hatched cause his hens have decided to not go broody yet. SOOOO I'm in a predicament! :/

Is there anyone you can borrow an incubator from to lockdown the first batch?

Not usually! ...try tapping, chirping, peeping, etc. If you have an active little hole pusher... it might start zipping soon. If you have a star crack that is just sitting there... open the wine and grab your book. :)

well, it's most likely too late but there are some inexpensive combos on ebay from China which use a sensor on a wire which works well.
I have one mounted in my Brinsea and it does a great job as I can set the sensor to the height of the eggs.
But!
Dollar store thermometers will give you a good idea of your temperatures and you can use a cup with a sponge in it with a tube run outside the incubator to refill with and you'll get between 50-65% humidity most of the time or, if you leave your air holes open, it will stabilize at room humidity and just add the water during lockdown.

I just honestly really don't have the extra cash to buy one at the moment. The hubby's been outta work due to a back injury and I can't seem to sell any eggs either. Humph. I could put the combo in the hatcher and pray that the other incubator stays stable. *is stumped*

Irishgirl: Hi, I am sorry to say I had one just like that and it did not survive.
Maybe someone else will have a different idea..........

Brookhaven: Thanks.I use to use sponges and cannot remember why I quit

And maybe get some much needed sleep.....
