March Hatch-Along Thread- Come Hatch With Us!!!!!

Thanks Pug. Should I have had my humidity up a little more? It was around 30-40..temp at 100. I wonder why they took so long to pip? The ones ive looked at the air cells are a little big and kinda down the side. Some look like they are peirceing the air sac, I see defendant movement.

I'm so confused!!!
For lockdown it does need to be higher- I run my humidity higher than most other's do for lockdown/hatch, about 65-70. It's what works best for me. The air cell will be a little down one side usually, and they should be good size...

I have 4 pips now....they are chirping!!!!!! They are late but who cares? I might have babies in the morning!!!!!

better late than never! So glad they are on the way!

chickydee64 .... none were alive in the hatcher. I am trying to figure out what went wrong but am having no luck.....got to put 4 more in the hatcher tomorrow....but they dont look to be alive in the bator from candling....need to dig deeper for more info...lol
It is frustrating isnt it ? temp gotta be 99-100 have to wash hands before touching the eggs. I use bottled water for humidity b/c we have a well. Also a really clean disinfected bator is a really good idea.
Mine looked clean and i wasnt havent any luck hatching but i got thinking i put them in cartons and the bator looked really clean but the water for humidity had been in there ??? cant say how long!
HAd to have bacteria after a few weeks of back to back settings
So took them all out and used a little clorox and rinsed really well .this time im getting them pop as they say like popcorn. So you gotta keep rethinking what to do you didnt,.
GOOD Luck!

Once the chicks have internally pipped, I move them to the hatcher with a humidity of around 60%...you might be running a bit low for hatch time. If you don't have a separate incubator to hatch in, and you're having trouble getting your humidity up, you can place a new, wet sponge in the corner of the bator and that will raise your humidity. You don't want to drown your chicks, but you don't want to shrink wrap em either. Only add the sponge if you've already filled your water trays and are still having trouble with getting the humidity up. If you don't have a sponge, something that might sound a bit odd, but is completely safe to use, is a maxi pad

...yes, I said it! Trust me, it works! You'd be surprised how many people use them!

OK now I've heard it all LOL! That is a new one on me- too funny, but makes sense. I use a sponge in mine, but have heard of wash cloth, paper towel etc- never the maxi pad till now

Morning!!!!!!!! I have babies!!!!!!!!!! 3 so far and 2 more almost out. They woke me up so good sign, they are running around like mad dogs in there. So far I have an ee and 2 rirs. I put 27 eggs in lockdown so here's to hoping even more hatch. Thanks guys for the kind words and encouragement! Off to count more heads!!!
Well good! Glad your babies got here- so where's the pics???

You both are talkin about the newly born chicks knocking the other eggs around....
I don't know if u have been told but a lot of folk were putting that rubbery non slip drawer liner under the eggs over that wire .... So I ran to the dollar store and picked up a roll for a buck and it was REALLY nice it made it easier to turn the eggs and they didn't kick the eggs around and it made clean up super easy!!
yep that stuff is great!

Been so busy bators all over the house hatching and setting...anyway they are coming out one here andone there.

Ok just hatched a chick had to help him get the cap off he was stuck for quite some time. He's out and about but scoots? It seems like he can't stand? He's perfectly healthy, could it be spraddle leg?
