Would it hurt to do a quick candle? It's day 19. Yesterday I swore I heard chirping, but now nothing, not even a pip. I would like to see if the lethal gene Serama carry went into effect. I also feel like I should add some more water... The BMA just uses it and uses it like nobody's buissness.

I candle during lockdown....

What I do is take it into a steamy bathroom so there's no harm done :)

I have a BMA. It holds temps. very well, so would I need to take it into a steamy bathroom? It just seems like a lot of work.

It's not the temps I'm worried about, it's losing the humidity when I open the incubator. If I open it and discover a pip, then it's not a problem because the humidity in the bathroom is as high as it was in the incubator.

Do whatever you're comfortable with.

Hi All,

We're halfway through day 20 now...and nothing happening here in Thailand yet.

I've been doing a dry hatch all the way through, but now the highest humidity I seem to be able to get my bator to sit at is 59%!! Will this be too low??? I'm starting to fret. Someone please advise me. I've already got two glasses with cloths inside, filled with water sitting next to the eggs. The glasses are full now! I can't put anymore water in them.....help!!!!

Thanks Hokankai for your quick reply...so appreciated!!

I've taken two kettles into the bathroom where my incubator is situated and been boiling water in them, right beside the bator. I've managed to get the RH reasonably stable at 60% now...hopefully it will stay that way. You suggest putting a wet sponge next to the eggs....is it ok to do that? I thought I shouldn't be opening the bator at all now?

Okay so I did a quick candle - There was an internal pip! Yay!!!

Looks like I might have lost two from the lethal gene, but I wasn't really sure. I went ahead and left them in there since they didn't stink. Now for the question(s) - How long after they internally pip do they externally pip? Also, did I do any damage to the one that internally pipped by opening the 'bator and candling? None of the others pipped, internally or externally.
