March Hatch-Along Thread- Come Hatch With Us!!!!!

Sounds like your bator was running a little too high...that's why they're a bit early. Remember, it's best not to put eggs into lockdown until you get an external pip. Of course, everyone has their own methods! Good luck hatchin them babies!

No, you shouldn't put them in lockdown when you have an external pip. You should put them in lockdown 3 days before the expected hatch date; Day 18 (for chickens).

Put my eggs in lockdown last night had some movement today and i heard one cheap. So excited. But they arent due til thursday.

Mine all hatched a day early. Tuesday was hatch day but all hatched Monday. Some were pipping Sunday night. I think with lock down date can be confusing. I have read soooo many things on lock down. Some say day 18 some say day 19. I think the reason being is people like myself are confused when day 1 is. Some say 24 hours after set. Some say starts when you set them.

This time around I went with what I read. If hatch date is Tuesday count 3 days back. Including Tuesday. So Sunday would be the day for lock down. Don't kill the messenger, just what I read. And it worked for me this time. First go around I locked down on day 18 and none hatched. This time I did this and 8-9 hatched. So I'm going with it again.

Had my first pip this morning at 8. And then my only ee went from nothing to hatched in 45 minutes. She is drying off now and cheeping like crazy.

Went out last night to candle my broody hens 3 eggs, as one was kicked put yesterday morning in freezing temps and was cold. It was put back under her but I didn't have hope. Well, I went out and all three were moving and looked to have something moving in the air cell! I peeped hoping to get a peep back....nothing...then I listened and heard tapping in two eggs! Went inside and told my bf we would have chicks by tomorrow (today) and he asked why I would say that and I told him I heard them tapping the shell...he of course rolled his eyes. Lol. Well I was beside myself this morning waiting to get out there and see! I commute and hour to work and was late this morning so I could see and sure enough we have a pip!! Now I can't wait to get home to see if I have a new baby or two or three!!! Eeek!! Also my quail are due tomorrow so hoping to see something with them tonight as well!
So exciting to hear of everyone's hatch!!
