March hatch along

They are Salmon Faverolles. Unfortunately I lost the hen in the picture this past winter. The eggs I am hatching now are all Faverolles so I'm hoping to get some pullets to replace her with.

Hopefully... lol... the last batch of Faverolles eggs I hatched out, I got 1 pullet out of 7.

They are beautiful!

Dont give up hope.... Unless the temp drop was for an extended time it should not be too much of a problem... Remember mom has to get off her eggs regularly to eat and drink during incubation.

Thanks so much for your encouragement! We'll know how they fared by next Wed. the 26th. I guess, as I am not a big candler.

Don't worry too much, read this article
http://www.brinsea.com/customerservice/poweroff.html It made me feel so much better about my eggs being "too cold" on arrival.

I don't remember who posted it originally but THANK YOU!

Thanks so much for the encouragement, CashandTracy! Honestly, these eggs take on the persona of a whole 'nother entity in the house, long before they hatch!
Less than a week to go to see for sure who made it...

my incubator is rubbish. It fluctuated all OVER THE PLACE between 34.0 degrees C all the way to 39.7 was the highest I saw it at and nearly chewed my fingers off!
I incubated 9 eggs, 2 of which weren't fertilized and the 3rd never made it past the first week (must've been a young hen's egg from the farm down my road) so I had 6 healthy chicks growing, and guess what, 6 hatched, although I helped 2 because they were really stuck in there. I think my incubator's humidity abilities is crap. You can only do the best you can. In nature mum would be getting off every now and then and eggs shift from being in the warmest place under her, to maybe rolling to the edge etc...nature isn't perfect.
All the best :) x

Ok, so I have two batches cooking. One on day 12 and one on day 10. I candled the day 10 eggs and saw movement in them!!! This is too exciting. They all had detached air cells, but one looks like the air cell is huge and oddly shaped because of it. What's the chance this chick will hatch and then also survive?
In shipped eggs if the cell reattached in hatches last year, the eggs normally made it to lock down, but all needed assistance getting out of the egg or failed to pip. Many of them pipped the wrong end in my first hatch and I lost many since I had them in mache cartons (what I used to hatch in the whole time), they did better when I took them out of the carton for lockdown on my later hatches, but almost all needed help. Best of luck in hatching, hopefully more experienced hatchers can give more thoughts!

So much good news from everyone this morning! Hurray!!!

I removed my egg turner last night.
Just how important is the positioning of the air cell when the air cell when laying on their side? I didn't candle because taking out the turner and placing the eggs was tough without an extra set of hands. They are on thick rubber shelf liner (looks like a checkerboard pattern) so I'm not sure if they will be able to roll around to get in proper position, but I don't want to disturb them if I don't have to.
