March hatch along

Couldn't stand it, so I candled 6 of my white eggs. I saw movement in all 6. BIG RELIEF! Guess I'll resume my regular turning routine tomorrow and just pretend the power outage never happened.

Yay!!! Can't wait for pics. Don't you have the lav AMs? I'm hatching five of those. Would love to compare since I know nada about them. ;)

I now have 4 chicks two are doing great two are weak (one of which is cuddling under my shirt hopefully warming up and getting energy it has a very bad crooked neck I tried to do a splint tyoe set up to help straighten it out. I also have 4 more chicks working on hatching one is malpositioned head at the small end of the egg pretty sure it will not make it but still hopeful on the rest.

A chick born with a crooked neck , also called wry neck, probably has the genetic type. It is a genetic defect passed on through recessive genes, so only some of the chicks would have it. (About 25% from the same hen and rooster) If this is the case, your chick may have problems thriving in the long run. You might try some electrolytes. Any chicks that still seem weak by the time they're dry and fluffy will benefit from electrolytes in their water. I use Sav-a-chic.
