March hatch along

Well? Shoot. Whatever I read yesterday said salt test is 75%, lol. Maybe I read wrong.

If that's the case, makes more sense for the high reading in the bator yesterday. Thanks!

@carcar80 , If I remember right, when I did the salt calibration with mine, I used a lot of salt. I think it was about 1/2 a coffee cup or so of it, and I mixed in just enough water to make it like a paste. I put the cup and the hygrometer together in a big ziploc bag and after 24 hours it was supposed to read 50%. Mine read 47, so I always add 3 to what it says.

Okay great. If I'm honest I may have a but much water in mine. Not sure. I may try again with more salt. Maybe actually measure it out. I think it's supposed to be like a 2:1 ratio, salt:water if I remember?

Well the 2 are locked down officially. I have the humidity a little too high at 86%

but at least I won't have to add water for a while. Which is a good thing since the 1602 doesn't hold it's temp very well when ever I do any thing with it. I know this because I've been running it empty for a week trying to get temps stable for hatching. I've got it pretty good so I'm determined to not touch the thermostat!

I'm getting rid of it at the end of this season and getting a hovabator 1588 for hatching next year!

Good Luck to every one entering lockdown

get your humidity down. Anything over 80% is asking for infection. Crack the lid to let a little out.
Well, you don't HAVE to, but that's what I've been told previously.

Well I have two external pips and today is only day 19/20! I actually thought they would arrive late bc they have been running at consistently low temps. And one is pipped at the wrong end. I thought this hatch would be good but now im kind of worried. Im having a problem raising humidity. What is the lowest safest humidity during hatch?

Hey to raise humidity put one or two wet paper towels in and re - wet with straw through vent hole so you don't have to open. Learned that from nice person last month when hatching Brahmas. Dries quick but works great.

Yay! We have 2 external pips and I hear chirping. I can't wait to see what these chicks look like. I got the eggs from my sister-in-law..... the eggs are from a silver spangled Hamburg hen and a white crested black polish hen and they were crossed with either a bantam EE roo, a standard EE, or a leghorn. So talk about variety.
