March Hatching Madness

Just wondering, why are you starting to raise the humidity now? Humidity of 45%-50% days 1-18 is what I've always heard and used

Humidity in the bator has been showing 20-25% tops since day one. I read the article on dry incubation that said not to add water the first 7 days..on day 7, candle them..put them back..and only add water if humidity is real low..low being 25%. I added enough water to raise the humidity to 32%. The article stated to wait until day 18 before raising the humidity to 65%.

I am open to all advice as this is my very first time with all of this..I have read that marans are harder to hatch so I am a little concerned about the humidity thing..and I really don't know what I'm looking for when I candled the eggs. I could see a light area on one end of the eggs and a darker area in most of the eggs so I am hoping all is well.
This site has been wonderful and I am eager to learn.

I think I may be out, My bulb blew in the middle of the night sometime, Eggs were 80 degrees when I woke up. I could see the heart beat of the ducks so well last night, now I can't see it pulsing

. I'm giving them a chance, but I don't know if they will make it. I'm hoping the chicken eggs set to hatch in 6 days will have had enough body heat, but I'll just have to wait to see.

Is it possible that I just saw an egg move? It is just day 8... I know I'm a newbie..and I DO have an automatice egg turner...but I could swear that I saw one of those eggs do a little bitty wobble sideways!

This is obsessive!

I started with 32 duck eggs on the 14th of Feb. I candled and only 5 were progressing after a week. The rest were clear as bells... so I threw away the 27 and replaced with 16 more. They had gotten way to cold before I gathered them, so I havent been able to tell yet on them. They havent been in for a week yet. Also threw away two goose eggs last night. One was looking really black inside... in the air cell. I broke it open and there was NOTHING in it at all. The other... nothing either. I can see the first 5 moving and swimming around in there. it is soooo cool to see. I am buying 4 day old pekins after I get off work tonight.. I am so excited.

I am looking for a March 14 hatch date for the 5 ducks and then staggered after that. I am going to have to get another incubator for hatching..... Yikes..more money....
