March Hatching Madness

Well, lost one egg today. It looked like it had broken under the broody and was out of the nest and she had an extra egg in there that was not supposed to be. So there must have been a mishap.

Oh well, this is a test hatch for me anyway.

OOOOOOoooohhhh I hope its not too late for me to join in! I just put 26 out of 27 eggs in for lockdown this morning!!! (the 27th one never made it past day 1) This is my 3rd hatch, but this time its a test hatch for my own eggs. They will be out of what we guess is a RIRxBR (see their pics on my page). It will be interesting to see what kind of chicks we get. Daddy is a BIG beautiful crele and the girls are RIRxBR?? and Buff Orpingtons. My BO girls just started laying a week before I set them. I figured it wouldnt hurt to try and sure enough everyone one of theirs made it just fine! Im hoping the babies will turn out ok! I did a dry incubation again this time. It has been very successful for me! Ran the first 18 days at 30% and these last 3 at 64%. Come on babies!! Cant wait to see pictures and I cant wait to post!!! I absolutely loooovvvveeee hatching these babies!!!

I have one pip, 4 hours early! A wise woman once said the early one's turn out to be roo's. In all my hatches this theory hasn't been wrong yet.

2 nice big pips now. I can't wait to see what I have in the morning! Hopefully a bator full of babies

Hi

Just moved over here from Feb. thread. I finished hatching 11 LF Cochins which was very exciting and now have a 12 Silkies in lockdown and due to hatch March 3rd, To me 5-6 of the Silkie eggs looked clear but since they didn't smell I decided to leave them in since this is really part of my first time candling/ hatching. Here's hoping something from this batch hatches.

I definitely wouldn't take them out to watch them. The temps inside the eggs will drop, which could cause problems, including killing the chicks. Just a thought...
