ETA: These are the 'washed and refrigerated "store bought" ' eggs. I set 18 eggs, tossed 4 clears, 6 BRs, Quitters, etc. 8 made it to lockdown.

Well, between the 2 march hatching threads I've been on, I decided to post this here, since I truly have gone MAD!! In the bator I have 27 standard Salmon Faverolles, 12 b/b/s bantam Ameraucanas, and 12 Welsummers all due between the 10th and the 20th. THEN, last night I set 17 bantam Cochins, 15 standard Cochins, 12 speckled Sussex, and 8 bantam salmon/blue salmon Faverolles. I still have 2 more orders of d'uccle eggs coming.

Hello everyone! I am setting up my hatcher today to stabilize it for lockdown on Sunday. I have seen several pics with different setups. I have 2 LG forced air incubators that I am using. In the hatcher, do I set the egg carton with the eggs directly on the wire floor or should I put something like a cloth over the wire. Also, if I do put something over the wire, will it effect the humidity? My hubby works at the hospital and brings home surgical drapes that cannot be used in the OR..(once supplies are opened they are no longer sterile and must be disposed). I thought about cutting one of these drapes to fit the bottom of the hatcher. Any thoughts? Thanks and keep posting pics...I love those babies!

You can put the carton right on the wire. I wouldn't use drape material, it's pretty slick, and you don't want to cause spraddle legs in your chicks. If you want to put something down, use the rubbery shelf liner (the kind with the holes in it). Also, something solid will likely affect your humidity.
