March Hatching Madness

Day 21: Two pips so far! The second one to pip has hatched, cheeping from the other, waiting on the rest. Here's the first sweet little ball of fluff. It's a self blue d'uccle. It already has the cutest little beard!!!

most of what I thought would hatch did...I still have 4 eggs that haven't done much, two of them I wasn't sure if they would hatch or not (I'm not great with candling, plus they're dark eggs). My first pip was Thursday evening, 3/4 (I had 3 piped at that time). Friday morning I woke up to peeps...

and one that isn't doing so well...

Once I pulled all the chicks out of the incubator, and placed them into a starter brooder (a cardboard box in my closet), I got the pics of the one with the issue, and placed him back in the incubator for now. There was one more egg with pips, so I left it. I went back in, and it hatched already!

So I have 3 eggs left, not sure if they'll hatch or not.

You got one of the ee/buff orps! Look into those eyes! They're so blink-blink cute! Sorry bout the one not doing so well. Good luck with the rest!

I ended up with 12 silkie eggs at day 18. And today is day 21. I heard a few peeps last night but still no pips....waiting...

Day 20, not a peep, a pip or a rock!! I hope my temp and humidity problem at lockdown didn't get to them....

Day 23 and after temp fluctuation problems throughout the whole time, we finally have two pips out of 12 eggs...the first pip happened yesterday afternoon and the second one was sometime this morning...woohoo!!

Update: 19 Hatched 4 eggs doing nothing yet to go!

there is 17 in the Brooder in the First Pic.

Now there is 18 in the brooder

# 19 is in the incubator drying as it had to have a bath to remove stuck on shell pieces.
So once it fluffs we will get it moved to the brooder.

Results of this set are:

27 eggs set 2/14/2010
2 infertile on Day 10 (removed day 14)
2 early quitters removed Day 18
19 hatched on the 5th (due the 7th)

4 eggs left in the incubator (doing nothing yet).
we will give them another 2 days, to do something before we remove them.

Fertility 92.59%
Hatchability 70.37%

this is one Rooster over 33 hens.

hatch rates are improving (with my experience level)
Set # 1 0 chicks/6 eggs
Set #2 4 chicks/9 eggs
Set #3 4 chicks/7 eggs
Set #4 19chicks/27 eggs

I will update this as I find out about the other 4 eggs in the incubator.
