Marek's and what to do?

vaccination doesn't stop mareks, but i'm sure you know that from "all that you've read".

if she does have mareks, your flock has been exposed. but that isn't the case here. your bird displays no symptoms of mareks. also, she'd probably be dead by now if it were mareks - along with most of your flock. this has been going on, per your words, for weeks.

acv and the likes do nothing for mareks.

and just for other people reading this in the future, markes does NOT live everywhere. if that were the case, no one would have chickens. they'd all be dead.

i'm done. i wish the best for your chick. i hope you get her leg the treatment it needs.

good energy coming your way.

My cochin is limping. My Dixie is paralyzed! Her right leg is just hanging there, she can't put weight on it, the toes curl up, she lays on the leg. She was limping at first, then couldn't use it at all, then was fine for a couple days, now her leg is useless.

I had a couple threads a couple weeks ago about this with more detail.. I don't know how to find them.
Initially I thought she sprained it or something. Now I don't think so. This has been going on too long.

I really don't see a point in arguing about this.

I think we should just wait and see what happens with the Cochin. There's nothing you can do anyway. If you got the July hens 6+ weeks before Dixie's symptoms, that's probably where it came from if it is Marek's. But I would think that you would lose a younger bird first, but my first 2 losses were actually adults.

I had one 10 wk old who went paralyzed, got better, a week or two later was paralyzed again. I've noticed with the paralysis sometimes it looks like they're pecking at treats on the ground, yet they never aim right.

How skinny is your roo? You may want to feel all your chickens for their weight.

her chicken isn't paralyzed. it's limping. are you listening to her? what has she said that makes you think there's even a chance of mareks?

Are you listening???? She said that her hen can't use her leg!!!! The roo is limping.
What makes me think it's Marek's??? I don't. But Lucymom's opening title says "Marek's and what to do." I am taking her concerns seriously, we are all telling her to wait and see. I am giving her examples of what I went thru so she can decide if she thinks her hen has it or not. NOT for similarities in saying that the hen does.

I've had leg injuries on birds become sore again shortly after treatment. They usually need a few more days of "time out". There is nothing you can do to help your flock if it is indeed Marek's. The best you can do is stay calm and treat what you see. Right now, address the leg injuries. I understand how you feel. I am going through it too.

that isn't what she said. she started this thread by saying she was limping on the leg.

Well, yesterday, her right leg is really weak and she steps on it and stumbles. Her voice is not normal, it's very deep and strange. She had to sleep on the floor again because her leg won't work properly.

and then she said (on page 3):

August 2011 Dixie molts and this all started.
She was laying around for over a week. Stopped laying eggs. Then I noticed the limping and how skinny she is.
I hand fed her and rested her, gave ACV and she improved a LOT. She was eating great, grazing, walking almost perfectly and talking again. 2 days ago she went downhill again. Today she cannot use her leg almost at all.

2 days ago, I noticed my Black Cochin rooster is limping... didn't think much of it until reading all this stuff

they both are limping. she didn't say until a few posts ago that the chicken could not use the leg at all (paralyzed).

ok, i just wanted to correct the above. that's all.

have a wonderful evening all.

I just want to know IF it's Marek's,,, should I vaccinate her, will it help? I need to disinfect the coop. Remove the hen, etc...

If it's NOT Marek's, I was looking for suggestions as to what it could be.

I had a couple other posts on here a couple weeks back, I don't know how to find them??

It's hard to remember all the details, I thought she was getting better, then she went downhill again.

I will give her some yogurt and eggs etc.. thank you

this is what you said in your second post:

She cannot use her right leg hardly at all

in-case it wasn't clear from above, that does not mean paralyzed. that means she is limping. paralyzed means she literally cannot use her legs - - she is immobile. there is a significant difference.

listen, i'm not trying to tell you what your chicken's symptoms are. you know, i don't. i have just been going off your descriptions. based on those, she isn't paralyzed. and she doesn't have mareks.

for the hundredth time - - the poor thing has injured her leg - - that's all i hear you saying.

i have taken you seriously, and offered the best advice of all: get a vet. because, the truth is, none of us know. we aren't there. we don't know the history of your flock, how they're treated, etc., etc.

you need a vet to be sure of anything.
