Im continuing to post to this thread because I found some answers here. My girl seemed to be doing worse yesterday. Now when she walks, she is highstepping so much that her toes are getting snagged underneath her wing and she trips. She is also becoming depressed & isolating herself from the group. It's day two of electrolytes & vitamins. Still no sign of anything similar in the others....Has anyone ever run into this before?
Oobhakeb~ That was the point my Gracie was at the day before we put her down. She was almost completely paralyzed but when she did try to move her left leg would come up so high that it got caught in her wing and would impede her from moving any further. I haven't heard back from the lab as to what my girl was battling. I tried everything to no avail and couldn't watch her suffer anymore. Someone once told me that once they lose the ability to do everything "chicken" their quality of life is severely affected.
I sure hope your girl takes a turn for the better. I will forever hold a spot in my heart for Gracie but I know she is in a better place now.

:-/ dO UPDATE THIS THREAD WHEN YOU FIND OUT. the darn TSC didnt have the meds I needed for the cocci..which is what I was going to try next. as of yesterday she was able to get around but I could tell she was having issues....
Gracie was hardly moving around. She was constantly lying down and would have to try and prop up her butt to relieve herself. I wondered at that point if I would want to be kept in that condition if it was me and the answer was no. So I made the difficult decision to euthanize and have her tested. Cried all the way there, while I was filling out the paperwork, and all the way back home.
I'm so sorry about Gracie. We've used the WSU lab ourselves. Good people over there. Hoping it's not Mareks so you won't have that hanging over your flock.
Well I finally got the lab results and the findings of the necropsy were very consistent with Marek's. SO...now yes, I guess I do have that hanging over my flock. I'm actually pretty freaked out about it now, I definitely don't want to lose anymore OR have to see them suffer. I asked them if there was anything I could do to hopefully prevent the rest of my kids from getting it and the answer was a big fat NO. Just a wait and see game I guess.
Another surprising thing was to find out that Gracie was actually an up and coming rooster! I would have eventually had to rehome him BUT this was not my idea of rehoming
I'm so sorry. I can't imagine your heartbreak. I have a young pullet, not even laying yet (Serama) that has gray eyes and a small pupil. I am worried that she may have Mareks. I do have other chickens and don't want them to get it, and also want to get some show quality Serama to breed and don't want to transmit anyting so I don't know what to do. Can't bring myself to cull her.
