HEEEELLOO :D. So I just ordered 5 baby chicks online and theyre going to be shipped somewhere in mid July. I know ordering chicks isn't the way to go because ive read a lot of reviews where chicks who has been shipped, they die 2 days after or months after. Although it's bad, there wasnt any other way for me to get a hold of baby chicks to raise. On top of that, i also got them vaccinated with marek's vaccination. I read mixed reviews about how they shouldnt need it and should need it. Will it be safe to eat their eggs? So im just wondering what are the good and bad about this vaccination.

THanks :)

Don know much about the vaccination thingy. Someone experienced here will surely help you out in a bit.

Mareks is the only thing I vaccinate for--I think it is worth it. It isn't successful 100% of the time however, just like in dogs with their vaccines. A friend's dog got parvo after receiving the vaccines.

Aww man... but yea.. not everything goes 100% well. Thanks for your answer :D OH and also will i still be able to eat their eggs?

I'm wondering if it's safe to eat chickens eggs that have been vaccinated for Mareks too. My guess is yes because so many people vaccinate their hens, but I wanted to ask to be sure anyway. Does anyone know if there's anything harmful in the vaccine that would end up in the hen's eggs (i.e. preservatives, etc)? I would get the vaccine anyway just because I love my chickens and it's horrible to see them die from Mareks but I'm just wondering.

You did a great thing vaccinating. And probably all of supermarket chicken has been vaccinated as chicks. You can eat them and the eggs. In LA, I think you can worry less about dead chicks because it's warmer. They do put a heat pak in with them. Call your Post Office and ask them to call you when they come so you can get them right away.

You are safe to eat the eggs, and even the birds if you are raising any for meat (no offense if you are not-- mine are just pets). If you have ever eaten commercial eggs or chicken before I can almost guarantee you've eaten from birds that had this vaccine. There is a lot of misunderstandings about this vaccine, so I've written a bit here, and you are welcome to have a read if you want to learn more: https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/the-great-big-giant-mareks-disease-faq

Thank you for the replies! Very helpful information. I can rest assured that the vaccine isn't harmful to humans if you eat the chickens eggs. Will definitely be vaccinating all my future chicks
