Mareks?

Flock raiser is a brand, and all flock is for all ages. They are both good for chicks as well as grown chickens. Layers require 4 times as much calcium, so some use crushed oyster shell in a separate pan for that. I would agree that Mareks may be the issue, but glad that he is doing better.

I figured flock raiser was for raising the Littles and all flock was was adult birds that weren't growing anymore. I'll have to go dig out the bags and compare. We had two ducks have the same kind of thing )kinda) out of this batch of birds. Vitamin b therapy helped, I will definitely continue to do research. He is still separated from everyone, although it's only for his sake so he doesn't get beat up since if it is mareks I'm sure it's gone around already. No other birds have shown any symptoms and we like 60 birds, mostly chickens and it's been like nearly 4 months since we've had these guys and nearly 3 years for the rest of em.
None of my roos are intentionally for breeding although accidents have happened.
"Flock Raiser" is Purina's name for their "all flock" type feed. It can be fed to all "age groups". I believe it can be used for ducks as well, but I don't know much about ducks, but do know they require niacin or they have leg issues.

The tags on your bags should have feeding instructions along with "age appropriate" use. I use an all flock type feed for all my birds, even littles. I may have to grind it smaller sometimes, but I don't have to go buy different types of feed either :)

I hope he improves more. Keep us posted.

Layers require 4 times as much calcium,
My understanding always was,,,,:old, that value to be 4% calcium. :idunno

I use Alflock since I have layers, and non-layers. No ducks BTW:( and no roosters ether. Certainly I offer oyster shell free-choice.
It contains 1.9% CALCIUM. I usually just round that to 2% when I write in my post respoding. That is amount of calcium needed by chickens for daily living. If they are laying,,,,,, then they need the 4% calcium in their diet. Their calcium needs are also supplemented when they eat greens while they free-range, or are fed kitchen veggies rich in calcium.
This feed is formulated such ,,,,,,that you feed one feed to your whole flock,,,, with mixed types of birds. Went out to grab the tag from bag, and did my best to take a pix of it. My Alflock has NIACIN.:thumbsup

Stride Animal Health makes a product called Super Spur https://www.chewy.com/stride-animal-health-super-spur/dp/249867 which is really just a vitamin supplement for chickens. If you scroll down the page and click on "Nutritional Info", you'll see it has a good amount of vitamins and trace minerals, and in the ingredient list, it has several probiotic strains too. I don't know much about Mareks because I have ducks, but I'm sure if all are stronger with a good varied diet and extra vitamins, it can't hurt. I use a tiny bit of this supplement in my ducks food and this is lasting a REALLY long time! I only have 10 ducks and 7 Call Ducks, so not as many as you LOL But I'm addicted to them too!

So I did inspect the tag on my flock raiser and it said something along the lines of you can raise meat birds on it but egg laying birds shouldn't have it until 8 weeks of age. I wonder if they recently changed it because I never had any problems and this year I've had 4 instances of vitamin b deficiency.
UPDATE ON ROOSTER-he is doing great, his new name is wobbles and we went through a rough period of him hating me. Like with a f*** I'm bleeding type of hatred. I assumed it was from me shoving medicines down his throat every day. We have since made up, thankfully. He's not aggressive one bit now. Obviously he walks a little funny but he is a big big boy and I actually don't know what kind kind he is. An accidental rooster from the pet store. He could be an olive eager? Idk. It is what it is.
