Are felt tipped Sharpie style pens really bad for marking eggs?

I am curious, Storey's Guide says no but I have seen good deal of folks use what appear to be felt tipped markers on their eggs with no ill effects. Is this conclusively bad for the egg?

It's all I use, especially with my broody hens. I use a Sharpie to mark the broody's egg so I know which ones to remove when she steals new ones. I've never noticed any bad effects. I believe the bloom protects the egg. I've even used permanent fabric glue to cover small cracks or dents in my hatching eggs and have had success saving eggs this way.

Good to know, Thanks all!

Storey's reason on paper seemed sound enough, but with as many folks that use sharpie on eggs it didn't seem like it was an actual issue.
