Maybe this is a super novice question, but I was just wondering why you mark the eggs with pencil? Don't the chicks eat some of the shell and don't pencils have lead in them? Can you maybe mark them with a non toxic crayon or something. Just curious

I always use a perment marker everything eles seems to rub off after awhile but I use a broody hen never have incubated . Good question
