Why would the egg have markings in the shell like this? I hope she wasn't having trouble when laying it..

We have a Black Java hen who lays a similar egg...and another who's eggs are torpedo shaped...and one who lays nearly spherical eggs...one who's colorant is off, as her eggs are speckled....
All this to say each hen is unique and has their own traits. Back when our flock was just 6 hens, I knew who laid which.
Fun, isn't it?!

Sometimes the egg membrane will wrinkle a little bit, or a hen may have deposits of calcium on parts of the egg. In commercial egg operations these eggs are weeded out as not being perfect, and sold as seconds, but they are perfectly wholesome. There are some oviduct issues that can lead to very strange looking eggs, but they would be much worse than the egg that you have.

And welcome to BYC :)
