A PS to Call ducks......if you have a learning disability then I would hope that it is something that some others here could catch. A lot of us need your same kind of learning disability as your good, common sense has seemed to well overcome any deficiency you may think you have.

Why thank you. People with learning disabilitys are often able to think in ways others can not because of our whacky wiring! infact being to smart is one of the things people look for in diagnosing lD's

But if they did ( and they have in the form of microbs) it means, that elements we may need in the future are there! We have to stop thinking inside the box (what they tell us is it's main mission) and think about how the main missions sub-goals and they well effect. NASA is one of the smartest space organizations in the world they never ever send a prob any wheres with just one mission.

Not really mars is the only plant that was thought to be able to sustain inhabitents. There are "Earth like planets" out there how ever it would take millons even billing of years to reach them. Aussming you could travel at light speed (299 792 458 m/s). Our Air Fighters are just approcheing mch 2.5 (speed of sound = 340.29 m/s) 850.72 m/s. And there has been only on passanger plane that could reach 340.29 m/s we are long long ways from being able to go to other "Earth like planets". Mars is the planet that is most likely to have presurved life on it. There is little hope of finding preserved life on venus. At least from the reading i did in grade 9.

I hope if we ever encounter intelligent life it is cause we found them and not the other way around. If they find us we will be severely out matched.

I think then that faster space travel would be at the higher priority for NASA than taking pictures. JMO

I would just trust that NASA, the leading space exploration team in the world, has a better understanding and reasoning than all of us... though you probably disagree. I guess it is a waiting game. We shall just see what type of results and research this rover finds in the next several years. We really do have to disagree about the significance of finding life on another planet. Even if the life we found was microscopic it would be a huge discovery.

I trust Nasa's work it is there financial accountability and priorities I question.

For example I am helping the State put fish logs in a stream that really does not need them and will wash away with the next flood... not really a high priority on my list and I think $50,000.00 could be spent elsewhere right now. I trust their methods though.

Ok, so I looked at the pictures of Mars and noticed mountains in the distance. Now mountains on earth are from volcanic activity or so they say. Now I see no other evidence of that on Mars like lava flows and the other gases that accompany volcanic activity like sulfur dioxide. I am sure Mars is as old as the Earth. So is Mars evolving or regressing and dying? What minerals does it have? does it have oil? Can it make the same precious metals and gemstones without earth like atmospheric pressure and conditions? I have read all the theories and I think at best we can learn more about the Earth from Mars than about Mars when we compare them.

Or is it what we always thought...? a dead rock in space.

And some people feel the need to be argumentative by bringing in a touchy subject that has next to nothing to do with the thread in question. Even I don't do that. The rover has nothing to do with the creation/natural origin debate, so kindly don't bring it in. For all the ways I question NASA, it's still an interesting thread, and I'd hate to see it locked.
