I bought a hygrometer for the incubator at
Wal-mart the other day, but since we are going to closing in 13 days (!!) I'm not planning to set it up just yet. While we might not get moved that quickly, if it came down to being able to get us settled on the farm fast, I don't want to mess up a hatch by unplugging the bator for a few hours and transporting it. Besides, I think the basement would be more stable for the bator temperature-wise than our current home with the AC on. My three year old keeps talking about chicks and those darn Silkies!
I saw some Silkies on CL, and somebody is offering a breeding pair in the southern MD CL that sounds really nice. But we will wait and watch, and meanwhile, get moved in! Can't wait! It's going to be great to have the horses in the backyard and not in a boarding barn. I might actually get to do more with them than clean stalls....because we are moving away from barns and doing just run-in sheds.
I'm toying with the idea of just buying a coop and having it delivered, like a Horizon coop (the larger versions) or a Green coop (the Elizabeth), but if anybody knows anyone who could build one, I might go that route. I could do it, particularly the Purina coop plans because those look easy, but I have four boys 7 and under, the youngest being 17 months. I get nothing done that involves power tools

My sewing machines have been silent for months because the littlest gets into trouble the second I take my eyes off him. Outside, I keep him tied to my back to keep him safe, lol. DH works long hours, and when he is off on weekends, I'm at work myself.
