MARYLAND THREAD!

Renee do you have a friend that might want to get in on it? I offered to a few friends if they wanted duck eggs they could pick a duck to keep here and buy some food for it, a couple thought it was a great idea but nobody actually took me up on it.

Hi everyone!

I am in the Maryland area.  I know this may be a weird question but I thought I would ask.  I know someone in another state who was able to purchase some laying chickens but they are kept at a farm that raises chickens. She provides the feed, and I am not sure about any fees.  I was wondering if there any places that do that here?  Where I am at now, I don't have the ability to raise the chickens myself.  I thought it would be a fun thing for my daughter to be involved in as well.  I guess it's kind of like house boarding but for chickens. It would only be for 2 or 3 chickens or so.  If you could point me in the right direction that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Where approximately are you looking to do this?

I am in Baltimore County, and easily accessible to other counties. My co-worker has a farm, but she said she won't be ready for animals for about a year or so.

ANNOUNCEMENT: Funky Feathers Fancy Poultry Farm is closed until 2016. Due to heavy predator losses and too much on my plate. We sold off the remaining birds back in May and tore down all the pens. In the meantime we will be rebuilding from scratch. I will still be a BYC member, but mostly just lurking and observing the progress of my favorite breeds (Splash Cochins & Butterscotch Call Ducks). I will be enjoying my Photography biz, jewelry making and hanging out in nature. Hopefully in 2016 I can acquire some awesome birds that meet or exceed the quality I had.

Does anyone have any suggestions for where to get organic (doesn't have to be technically certified) layer crumble in the mid Maryland area (I am in the Silver Spring/Burtonsville MD area)?? I bought pellets at a local turf store and my chickens will not touch them. :( thanks!

Southern States in Upper Marlboro carries both No-Corn/No-Soy (but not organic) feed. They also sell Countryside Organic feed in a 50lb bag.

You can also order Organic feed from Blue Seal. Their is a Blue Seal dealer in Upper Marlboro called Meyer Feed. You need to call Mr. Meyer and have it ordered. But he likes backyard flocks. So there is no min order size unlike other feed stores.
