MARYLAND THREAD!

Cumberland MD here. No one near me, I feel so alone. lol
Since December I have (had) hatched (by my wonderful daughter) 5 button (sexes ?) & 7 Coturnix quail (1-2 roos), 5 Bielefelders (3 roos), 1 Light Sussex & 1 Bantam Cochin (both roos). I can't keep the roosters. Sigh.
I am getting assorted color adult Muscovies back from my daughter & production whites from Moose Manor.
I am looking for a decent Svart Hona cock for a good price. Black Bart is shooting blanks. lol
After all the extra roos are gone, I am planning on getting Silkie eggs (love those little puffballs).
Wow, and I thought MY boy/girl ratios were rough! We started out with 10 straight run Nankins, and the boys won, 6 to 4. Then a hawk got one ... and it had to be a pullet, right? Despite a couple of successful hatches and re-homings, we're still running on a lady-deficit. Luckily, all of my remaining fellas get along, so we're running a bachelor pad for wayward boys. Most days, it's more like a frat house, but those fellows certainly are entertaining ... and awfully pretty!
Good Luck finding a Svart Hona roo. Did you post on the "In Search Of" forum, yet? I know there are people here on BYC who raise them. I'm sure SOMEone has a roo who needs a home!

I am selling my small Svarthona flock. I have 4 hens about a year+- old and one rooster almost a year, I'd have to look up the actual dates, can't quite remember off top of my head. The hens are great, the rooster is quite fertile though he does have a side sprig. As much as I adore these birds, my heart is in my Phoenix flock and I just don't have the room for them or the time to work on them. Very friendly birds that thrive on human interaction. They all need to go together, message me if interested, we are Eastern Shore, Pocomoke area. I also have 2 Phoenix Svart pairs that were a pleasant surprise. One pair is blue Fibro and the other silver Fibro. Oh, and 4 or 5 gorgeous silver Phoenix cockerels left from the great male hatches, and several blue silver pairs.

I wish, I wish, I WISH! I really like the Svarthona birds, partly because they're small enough to feed my bantam-fixation, but mainly because of those crazy-gorgeous sickle feathers! I had to downsize this past year, myself, for much the same reasons you cite - time (and space.) My Sebrights are all gone. I have a single pair of ribbon-winning Porcelain D-Uccles left (which I REALLY should sell, but ...) and a few odd cockerels who are all spoiled pets. The rest are all Nankin Bantams, our main focus.
Lack of space and the need to work for actual income (so I can feed my charges) are getting me down ... I guess I should buy a lottery ticket ... {{{sigh}}}

Hey! I'm in Rockville, MD!
First time posting to BYC and it's just because I'm really interested in getting a few chickens for the first time ever!

Any idea where I can buy chickens near me? Any help is appreciated <3

Welcome Aboard! BYC is a GREAT community!
I'm in Cecil County. Have you got a coop set up, yet? I HIGHLY recommend you do that before you bring any biddies home. There's a whole section here on BYC devoted solely to coops and runs - to-do's and to-do-not's, different types for different locations ... lots of neat stuff!
If you're ready for peeps, check out your local Tractor Supply or other feed store. Most have peeps these days. If you want something more specific, or want to find out more about what breeds are "out there," look around here on BYC. You may even find someone with older birds that need homes. You'll get lots of info and lots of advice on what to get, where to get it and how to house and raise your flock. It's pretty cool!

Well within "Hailing Distance!" Hello, Neighbor! I'm in Cecil County, MD. I've got a small flock of bantams, mostly Nankins, and a spoiled house rooster. What's in your coop?

Awesome! Reminds me of a cartoon I saw some time ago. Wife talking to irritated hubby, shrugging her shoulders and looking at him, confusedly, saying, "Wadda you mean , 'No More Chickens'? I haven't collected the whole SET yet!"
