MARYLAND THREAD!

Hi everyone! I’m a newbie to the forum and about to get our first chicks. Does anyone have any leads on local places with either Buff or Lavendar Orpingtons or Easter Eggers? We’re in Carroll County
Hi @Shoemacl, welcome to BYC. I am in MD as well and I just today placed an order from Chesapeake farm hatchery for two chicks to be picked up in about 8 weeks. They sell both BO’s and Lavender Orpington’s. They also offer mareks vaccination for a small extra cost. The last chicks I got a couple of years ago was from Marker 99, and they also sell BO’s and Lavender Orpingtons-but the chicks I got from them are NOT vaccinated against Marek’s. They told me Marek’s was not a problem for backyard flocks (which is flat out wrong), so that’s why I went with Chesapeake Farm this time. I think the vaccination is imperative. Although the BO I got from Marker 99 is a true delight, she’s a bundle of fluff and personality. But that may just be BO’s generally.

Any help appreciated, I am in Central Maryland and ready to expand my flock, as usual, I have been reading about a goose both as a protector and good addition to chickens and ducks if added in a singular animal. Does any know when I can get a female gosling either Pilgrim or Buff in my area? i only want one and will travel a bit to get it. I would also be interested if all i could get were eggs to try and incubate myself but really looking for a single female. Any help or advice appreciated.

Hi All,

Located in Montgomery County, Maryland. I have two lovely 5 year old hens (approaching 6 this August) that need rehoming rather quickly. Unfortunately, my family and I will be moving and are unable to take our girls with us 😭. I really would like to find a loving home for them in the area where they can live their lives happily.

Since they are a bit older, they don't lay eggs as much. Buk Choy (the speckled sussex) still lays once every few days when the weather is warm, but Squooky (the barred rock) no longer lays eggs. Both are very sweet, love following us around for treats, and have absolutely adorable vocalisations! Squooky also enjoys sitting on Buk Choy's eggs because she can.

I have attached a photo of Squooky and Buk Choy. But I also have videos that I cannot attach, but am more than happy to provide upon request.

Let me know if interested!

Hello All,

We have a surprise Roo in our young flock of eight. All were hatched beginning of Dec and are about about 15 weeks old. A couple days ago, our Roo found his voice and our county (Baltimore County) does not allow us to keep roosters. He's easy to handle and seems friendly, but I'm afraid we are going to be violating the county rules if we try to keep him. I'd love for him to go to a loving home - no fee. Willing to meet within an hour or so of Baltimore County. Pic is attached. He is a Blue Ameraucana.

Thanks!
