I am from Wilsonville, AL and received my first chickens last year. Started out with 8, but free ranging just gave the raccoons and hawks their daily food.

The flock right now is small, one buff orphington rooster, two heritage hens, a rhode island red, and a barred rock.

Whenever I needed information on chickens I used the Internet. I bought a book about raising backyard chickens and read before acquiring the chickens. I always get on the computer whenever I have a question about chickens to read other flock owner's answers to my questions.

My husband and I collect old cars and love to travel in our RV around the country. We have two indoor cats that travel with us. Now we have to have a "chicken sitter" when we travel.

The chickens are my nightly therapy. I let them out to free range while I keep an eye to the sky so that they will be safe. It is too funny how "Buddy" our rooster will get a grub and call the hens to come eat. He is so considerate to them. He is so spoiled and when I come out he comes running towards me. I give them watermelon and cantaloupe plus dried worms and scratch as daily treats.

Hello and welcome....so glad you joined BYC

Sounds just like me. Get home from work, let chickens out and sit right there with them watching the sky :)

Enjoy the site

Thanks. Glad to hear that you now have your chickens back. Looks like you are going to have babies. I do not have the nerve yet to incubate and hatch chicks yet. I try to get pullets and feed them until they start laying.

A friend of mine is hatching a couple of what people down here call "Easter Egg" chickens. He is going to give me two of the little ones when they are about four weeks old. I can hardly wait. These chickens supposedly lay blue eggs.

Good luck on your new babies.

Mary
