Massive incoming grain and food shortages

P.S. I work at a grocery store. Will be interesting to see how that pans out seeing as what's coming. :pop
Im catching up on reading stuff here.
If you work at a grocery store. See if you can get the produce they are getting ready to throw away. You don't want to be feeding your birds moldy rotten stuff, but food that's going because it's old, too soft, split open, bruised etc etc would be perfect for them. It may not replace their entire diet but can sure stretch it out a long long way further.

Wow, I have two Starbucks in my town alone!

(Granted, I’m in WA. :p there’s a Starbucks every 5 minutes it seems)

Already tried. Let's go there though.

It is a no go 😞. I stand there while Ms. Angelique wheels it to the dumpster out back. 😭

We had a convo once about whether it is illegal or not to take from the dumpster. She tried to say it is; but then she looked it up and found out lt is not. Here is the thing - that dumpster is disgustingly filthy. It stinks to high heaven. I can only imagine the germs.

I have thought about getting one of those long reacher apparatuses so I do not have to touch the container. Thing is I can't do it on shift. To be rummaging around there off shift 🤔?

I'm using the spent coffee grounds to grow mushrooms. Or trying, anyways. Waiting for the cultures to fruit now, to see if the mushrooms I get are the mushrooms I innoculated with... :)
:popinterested. please update on your progress periodically

After shift? Use a long net. Is Angelique your boss? If not, could you ask the person above her? Less waste for them to haul…I wonder if she could dump it in a container next to the dumpster if you convince them to do it for you. And you could take the “clean” container and dump it in your trunk.

No, produce manager.

Don't think they are charged by weight. So, probably not a consideration for company.

Decent suggestions and all, but they are not going to add another container on the property (let alone for me).

I "may" ask Patrick (store manager) if I may have the scraps, for the fun of it, and see what he says.

Normally I operate on an "It's easier to get forgiveness than permission" basis; once I ask, and IF it is a negative then game over. You feel me?

Actually, if I thought of a work-around to the filth of the area I probably would have done it. Then again, as I stated I can't get it when it is fresh becauase I am on duty. Hubby is out and about with his business so I can't call him to hurry and come and get (that was my original thought).

Wonder if you can put a big tote INSIDE the dumpster and have it dumped inside it. Then u grab tote, outside is yuck but food is clean. No real extra work for anyone else. No 'rummaging' its grab and go
