MASSIVE Turken Babies. Why?

Somewhere in that thread is information about health and life expectancy, etc. Supposedly it’s all fine but my tinfoil hat is tingling for sure
Do you think they would be okay since they’d be only be half CC? I’m really frustrated with Tractor Supply right now. I wish they would have advertised properly, and I’m afraid I will have to cull my little guys and that’s the last thing I want to do (unfortunately, I am a big softie).

I have no idea. The hatchery is listed on there-it might be a good idea to go to their website and see if you can find some more info.

To me they definitely look like cornishx that carry the NN gene. The NN gene is dominant, if birds have one copy they have the “bow tie” like your bird does, and if they have two copies they have the fully naked neck. So someone has bred the NN gene into their meat bird crosses. That is not good that they were sold as turkens!!

Thank you so so so much for your response ❤️ I’m disappointed but I’m glad I have an answer so I can prepare better

Just adding a little something, I know Meyer hatchery just added a new broiler breed that is also naked neck. They seem to be the ranger type that can be bred and raised like normal heritage breeds but they just get to butchering weight faster. Kinda interested in them myself but I think I’m maxed out for space right now.

If one hatchery does something new the rest are sure to follow so I wouldn’t be surprised to hear Hoovers and/or Cackle are creating their own lines of naked neck broilers that happen to get mixed into their turken bins from time to time.
