Mast Cell Cancer in a Dog

I don’t know where your baby has the tumor (is it the bone?), but I’d like to mention that if it is in her leg bone like ours was, I’d recommend amputation.

How large is it? The one on my dog's shoulder was maybe the size of a quarter.

It’s in the skin, and it’s about the size of a quarter as well.

The vet said they would have to take out the skin within a three inch radius of the tumor.

It actually gets bigger and smaller…like right now it’s so small I can hardly find it and other days it’s easy to feel, like it doubled in size.

I would think there’s a good chance they could get it all with surgery then. Be prepared, they will take a lot to be sure they get it all.

I’d forgotten about the Benadryl, but it did help our pup, unfortunately she was asleep most of the time

3" seems like a lot but each vet has their preference.

My vet went under recommendation (so tumor + 0.5 mm margins, recommendation was 2 mm margins) so that's why the oncologist has been rechecking the previous tumor every 3 months to ensure that the growths don't come back.

Here is my Lilly with all of her toys. Her tumor was massive but it was operable and the surgery successful. She lived many years longer but passed in 2009 because of her age.

Sending love to you and your pup. Friend of mine recently had a tumor removed from their dog and so far it is looking good for him. They can get through this.

Is Eva a spaniel? Lilly was a Cocker Spaniel. A sweet and docile little girl.

Just to let y'all know, Eva had her surgery this past Thursday. She's doing well - way more active than the vet would like but I try to keep her quiet... I will post again when the biopsy results come in .
