will ganders mate with more than one female or do they "pair" up?

If you have unequal numbers of ganders to geese then the males will mate with other geese. But they normally do pair up.

I've also read that when ganders are younger, they like to "play the field." However, as they get older, they pick their lifetime mate.

Huh, just like a young guy to fool around for a few years before he decides to settle down, get married and raise a family.
