Matilda was very intent on bathing in last year's used potting soil I took out of a raised bed.

She'd kick a bit, then rest, with her eyes closed, then suddenly spring into action again, rolling and kicking the soil some more.

Finally, she rolled onto her side and just enjoyed the warmth of the sun in the lovely depression she'd built for herself.

The first time I saw my girls doing that I thought they were having fits & dying. Then they jumped up, looked at me like I was crazy, & continued running the yard. Silly chickens. Cute photos.

My hens do the same thing outside. It's HYSTERICAL. What's even funnier, my 4 wk old chicks do it in the grit bowl in their pen!!

I thought mine were seizing and dying, too. Didn't know they were having the time of their lives!

Oh my gosh! My EE pullet Munk does that exact same thing! LOL! They are so adorable. But my Barred Rock doesn't ever dust bathe, just keeps an eye out for Munk while she gets 'down and dirty' haha
