Matilda is a hybrid Maran, her comb and dangly ear bits developed quicker than her 3 sister hens and it was speculated that she may be a cockerel, but she is a hen. We think she hasn't laid, we've had the hens a year. We have 4 hens and get 3 eggs a day so we are not sure about Matilda not laying. Matilda is different from our other hens, slow moving and very gentle. To make sure she gets a share of a treat we have to hand feed her or she gets nothing. but for a few days now her left eye has become completely shut up. It doesn't look sore or weepy just closed. Matilda is not thin or scrawny and seems happy, she does not seem to be in pain. we bathed it in salt water but her eye remains closed up. My wife and I worry about Matilda, despite all, she is a real cutie. If anyone has any suggestions about Matilda's eye problem or has experienced this sort of problem, please contact us or leave a message. [email protected].

I would get some terramycin eye salve and put it in her eye several times a day
also you can buy some Vetrex and put it in her eye also
then under her wings and add 1 tsp of vetrx to te chicken waterer

also I would feed the hens a
natural probiotic wet mash
for 5 hens use
15 tbsp of dry crumbles
30 tbsp of milk any kind
2 tbsp of yoguart non flavored

once you mix it up then you will know how many cups this will take

feed this at morning feed what they will eat in 20-30 minutes
keep this up till bird recovers
then once a week for life

the hen may be one of those that changes sex and has male hormones
