I like to share some fun stuff, not just problems.
Phoenix, my little rooster, is now 3 1/2 years old. Yes, its THAT Phoenix, who was supposed to turn into a "killer" rooster three years ago and never did.
Phoenix is a sweetheart, very kind with the hens and with me too [surprise, init?].
He loves to dance and sing, yet he has always been a bit of a klutz when it comes to mating. During his first year I thought it was due to being an inept teenager but he never got a good hang of it.
Maybe it is the hens....
One of the two young ones is sometimes willing, the other just runs.
The characters are the old ladies, I wish I could capture their antics in a picture.
There is GleshkaRae, the mysterious, enigmatic one who lets Phoenix mount her, then goes into bucking horse mode. Yes, she literally bucks him off herself.
Sweet, gentle Puff Lilly also lets him mount her but immediately bends the entire front of her body clear to the ground while leaving her behind sticking up. Her body forms an incline, Phoenix loses his balance and slides off her forward over her head.

What has always surprised me is how Phoenix takes this in stride, does not get angry and has never pecked anyone [including me]. He just gets up and about his business. Like he`s saying : no problem, I`ll try again some other time.

There were times when I could not stop laughing watching this go down.

Has anyone else ever observed goofy [attempted] mating scenarios with their birds?
Just curious.

I don't think there's anyone who's ever kept a rooster or two that won't admit to roosters being hilarious entertainment.

The young cockerels trying to figure out the logistics of mating are often the most entertaining. I watched one that was a bit too enthusiastic in his "go for it" rapid approach that resembled a missile launch. He had so much momentum built up that he slid slickly off his target and did a nifty somersault as he flew off over her head. Good times, indeed.
