Brought home three Buff Orpington’s on April 3, 2019.
One has a huge comb-wattles and began laying 2-3 weeks ago.
The second one has almost no comb-wattles. The third one has a little pink comb-wattle.
What is the beta on the maturation process?
(They are all on good feed so that’s not the issue.)

Our first little flock had 2 each of 5 breeds, all shipped to me as one-day old chicks. One of the breeds was a Speckled Sussex. Floppsie was the very first in that group to lay at 140 days old. Her sister of the same breed was the VERY last to lay at 190 days old. So - there can be a giant variation.

I assume they had different parents but shouldn’t chicks within a breeds have fairly consistent maturation ?

Not necessarily, there is many variations in a breed and they can all grow and mature at different rates.

When I keep my chicks as growouts, they all grow at different rates depending on who their mother was even though all of mine have the same father.
