MAY 2016 "Land of the Free Because of the brave!" Hatch-a-Long Hosted by, Mike & Sally

Four eggs in the bator for the May hal, lol they have lots of space to stretch out when/if they do hatch
nope nothing
Did I tell you that I am picking up my duckies this afternoon?
if not more, probably like ten+

Ok question! Have my first batch of broody hens in my coop in 3 years. How protective can my roosters get over them? My bantam rooster I have to watch when I get near them but no problem yet. Just curious because I have not removed spurs and my big male has a set of spurs that make me say "Holy Crap!"

I've never worried about the roosters. It's the broody hens that I'm sacred of.

I have a hen sitting on 3 shipped Modern Game Bantam eggs due April 30th but in case those fail to hatch I have two backup eggs in the incubator from my own flock of Easter Eggers due May 13th.

I hope they all hatch!

Only 4, yes plenty of room to stretch out then. I hope your post pics of the duckies. 7 is the min. number to set.

At least 10+ and everybody knows that hatching eggs can only be bought by the dozen so might as well just put them all in.

Exactly... I was setting 7.... I set 17.
9 are clear though so it is a good thing I set so many! :lau

I love to see hatching rationalizations!

I set 12 expecting that at least 4 would not make it. Pulled two clears at candling. Checked everyone this morning and broody had two eggs out from under her. They were cool to the touch. I pushed them back under so we will see if they make or not. If not, my math works out. :)

I would love to set 7 but I have to wait for her to lay them and I don't think she likes my roosters, I was just given her -she's a polish and she was laying the day she got here so I figured I would throw them in and hope for them to hatch
Can't wait to pic the ducks up and there will be many pictures
