MAY 2016 "Land of the Free Because of the brave!" Hatch-a-Long Hosted by, Mike & Sally

I did the egg shuffle today... Duck eggs into the hatcher... 13 Silkie eggs into the cabinet incubator. I have a few Silkie eggs trying to hatch.. Just not loosing enough moisture : (. I think the cabinet incubator will help. On a happy note... I am seeing some really awesome lavender and paint chicks with vaulted skulls and showgirls from my eggs. So when I get it right I am going to have some crazy awesome chicks!

I have a showgirl hen that was a chipmunk chick and I thought she was a silver partridge or something like that but now I am starting to think she might be lavender after all. I really wanted a lavender showgirl and to think I already had one is pretty funny. She is with split lavender Roos so half her babies should be lavender if she really is.

Sorry Chaos, but Banty's right--than is for comparisons, and then is for putting things in order (first this, then that). *removes teacher (OK, fine, instructional assistant

They are only on Day 5, will candle tonight. The air cells were already not looking too good in most of them. Well, I still have more under the broody hen if none of these hatch. I was hoping to get a couple of pullets to keep this time.

I think I am a little overextended right now with all of the end-of-school-year stuff going on with my kids, I am not paying attention to things very well.

Well, you are paying attention to the right and most important things..your children! Good for you. Hope those eggs work out. You never know. You may get some to hatch. Your a good mom. School will be out soon. Hmm, about the time those eggs will be hatching. They can help you with the chick chores! :)

Thanks :) My 4 year old had her last day of preschool today; she is my big helper with the chickens!

Thanks :hugs
This was one of those freak accidents (I don't have full memory of what happened) we think the mare dropped her head to the feed pan while my back was to her and she must have hit me in the back of the head with her head. She never crowds me or gets in my space so I'm really surprised she was right behind me like that.
Unfortunately, since this is my second concussion, the symptoms were more severe and recovery is slower. I've had multiple CT scans and dr visits the past couple weeks and I'm feeling waaaay better but the docs tell us I can probably expect to have symptoms for about 6 weeks.

I need to get some more pics of the Cochins- they are sweeties :love I can't wait to see how these babies turn out! Now I have to find room for all of them lol.
Hopefully you are able to get some of her eggs too :)
I hope u heal quickly! Never fun!! :hugs

good luck with him lol

Candled last night, day 9. All seven Lavender Orpingtons, 3/7 Orloffs, 2/4 FBC Marans, and 5/6 mixed breed are developing nicely with lots of embryo movement. Unsure about six of them, one probable blood ring, but no bad odor so haven't removed any. Will candle again in a few days.

Have really nice candling pictures and video but can't get them to upload. Is it not possible to do that from an android phone?
