My broody now has three chicks hatched. I'll be posting adorable fluffy chicks and momma pictures tomorrow. So far, she's being a really good mom, keeping them tucked right up under her.
I'm just hoping she's better at keeping her chicks with her than my last broody was.
The third keet egg hatched late this afternoon.
I just happened to look in and it was in front of her, wet and getting cold
...so I swooped it up and put it under the first broody with the first two keets.
I was a surprised when I checked back later because it wasn't a normal colored keet like I thought...lol.
It has a white belly and wings.
Does anyone know if keets are like a chick and don't need feed asap?
Or do they need food right away?
I took them from the broody for tonight to make sure they get food and water.
I gave her another egg....(shhhhh, she doesn't suspect a thing...lol)
Hopefully I did the right thing.
I thought the air cells on the 4 unmarked eggs looked pretty big.
Checked tonight; one's internally pipped and the rest look ready too.
So I upped the humidity and checked back when the broodies hatched the first chicks. (these are eggs started the day I was gone.)
Yep, they're due on Tuesday...
Well, I ended up fitting 9 of the 12 eggs in my incubator (set them yesterday morning), will candle in a few days and see if I should toss any and add any of the 3 remaining eggs.
I only saw air cells on two and both of those had carpenter's air cells.... (or whatever the appropriate term is).
*fingers crossed that something survives*
This is my first time with shipped eggs and I really want to get some chicks out of them!
