I’m so sorry!Well, little cochin got worse overnight so we decided to end its suffering. It was clearly uncomfortable and couldn't even hold its head up anymore, even after frequent administration of water and vitamins.

Well, in addition to not being able to count, it’s also possible that I can’t spot a pip accurately either...Ours have been the same way and my temp is right at 99.5. I have several thermometers to check. Maybe our chicks are just so excited to see us.
I have quail that’s supposed to hatch on Monday but a few are internally pipped. I assume they’ll come out today at some point. The ducks are supposed to hatch tomorrow so them being internally pipped doesn’t worry me since they take forever. My polish Deathlayers will be hatching today most likely or tomorrow on Mother’s DayI’ll have lots of babies tomorrow I think!
I’m sorry![]()
I'm so sorry for your lossyou did everything you could to give it a chance!
What a bummer!![]()
Thank you, everyone!I’m so sorry!![]()
You’ve got the corona hatch virusWell, in addition to not being able to count, it’s also possible that I can’t spot a pip accurately either...I kept checking on them last night - no change. Right before bed, I looked at a different angle and saw... maybe that “pip” is the number 4 written in pencil by someone with sloppy handwriting? That someone would be my DD who’s not got great penmanship, the 4 would be the month of April, because we wrote the date collected on all eggs... Then the other “pip”, I don’t know. They’re BCM eggs, and I think that second “pip” could just be a scratch in the bloom... I think I’m seeing things!

Wonderful! You are so creative and confident... your kids are lucky--I hope they know that. It's just a styrofoam box Haha! I cut out and made some windows and put some holes in it and a light bulb. It took about 3 days to find a light bulb that worked and a fair but of tweaking. I had to cover one of the windows because I went a bit ott with them but its holding temp and humidity lovely .
I have one thermometer and one that does temp and humidity. And two small cups of water . I put a non slip mat on the bottom as well

Do you have heat in your brooder? It should dry itself.one chick had pasty butt just cleaned it and blow dried it as best as I could. not sure if it is dry enough or should I dry it some more.
I hate having to cull a little chick.Thank you, everyone!
It is a bummer but I feel like we made the right choice.
I agree with this. Now I cull when I know a day or more means more suffering. Chicks don’t deserve that.I hate having to cull a little chick. So sorry this had a sad ending--you did all you could, and when it came down to the last resort you unselfishly did the right thing.
