May 2020 Hatch-A-Long

Pics
So my humidity has been coasting around the 30s and I'm on day 13 BUT the air cells are still small... like day 7 small

Should I decrease it to the 20s?
or
Does the air cell change a lot when it comes to lockdown?

I’m here!
Mix of Ameraucana, olive eggers and some surprises in the incubator (two dark brown...some kind of Maran crossed with an unknown rooster). 9 total for now. 4 more in the egg box waiting for an incubator (hopefully tomorrow). Could be a mix of partridge Chantecler, BCM and speckled Sussex.

If you're in the market for a new one I bought a Magicfly candler off Amazon and it works great!

When in doubt I always leave eggs in, that is unless they start to smell or weep.

I'll keep that in mind for next time, given shipping delays right now I probably couldn't get one here within the week!

I plan to leave them in. Other than the one dud I didn't see anything that screamed Really Bad, no smells or weeping. I'm probably just being too much of a busybody :gig

I found this tiny, adorable (hummingbird?) egg in the gravel today. Still intact.

i think that's way too big to be a hummingbird egg. And Google says hummingbird eggs are white, the size of a navy bean.

Found some Narragansett eggs locally :)

Theyll be heading into the incubator Tuesday. Only getting 6 eggs, so fingers crossed we get a few. Really only want a Tom and maybe one or two females. We shall see!

Surprising my son tomorrow to pick them up. It’s a 3 hour or more drive. Going to tell him to bring gloves and boots, we’re picking up broken filler concrete lol. He hates loading concrete! Then we’ll show up on this lady’s farm and meet the turkeys :)

Heres dad...

These babies are from March hatchalong. 3 Deatherlayers, 2 Silver Spitzhaubens and the rest are Silkie bantam/Sebright crosses, a few Russian Orloff/Sebright crosses in there too.

Moved outside without a lamp! Proud of myself, as I normally leave a heat lamp outside for a month or more lol

That's great! Can't wait to hear how it goes!
This is my first set of eggs too. But so far, so good. I started candling them today altho it's only day 4. I saw lots of embryos, and some I wasn't sure. Then I got a phone call and closed it up. I'll check again tomorrow or next day. I find that it holds that temp perfectly. Humidity....if I put more than 1/4 tsp of water in, it gets too high, as in high 50's. How is your humidity doing and how are you adding water? I had my DH drill a little hole near the bottom and I put in water w an eyedropper. Just a few drops raises the humidity a few % points.

I also have a Janoel 12. I love that idea of putting a small hole in the side to add water! Right now I am opening mine twice a day and using a disposable cattle syringe with a nasal attachment on it to put about 12 cc of water through the grid into the bottom.

My chicks from March were outside too. I just sold them all though. I'm hatching more now.

here's a pic of the hole, it's below the bottom rack. I keep a piece of tape over it and add water with an eyedropper.

Gorgeous group of chicks!! I'm a little intimidated by turkeys but those look amazing.
